Diamond Head is an Oahu icon that mixes some of the most beautiful views from mauka to makai, interesting history, good exercise and at the end of the day.. you’re hiking a volcano (how cool is that?!).

Recommend planning ahead with plenty of water, shoes with good traction and sunscreen since you do have to work a little for the summit beauty with a steep elevation gain and you’re completely exposed to the sun almost the entire time. Going in the morning will be less hot, but is usually more crowded.

If you’re local, it’s an easy, cost-free entry at your desired time with your HI ID, but if you’re coming from the mainland or elsewhere, ensure you plan ahead and arrange your entry reservation online and determine your logistical approach (self-park vs. Uber or taxi, etc.) The parking lot in the crater can fill up quick, especially on weekends. Alternatively, you can hike in from outside the crater, but this also means a much longer outing and may fatigue those who don’t hike often.

Bottom line: Be smart with proper preparation and enjoy this Oahu must-see attraction that deserves every bit of its appeal and notoriety.

Appreciated that there were staff in the parking area to guide us to check in downstairs. We took the audio tour and highly recommend it so you may proceed at your own pace and look at the rooms as long as you wish. All staff were very friendly and helpful! All displays were done tastefully and with sufficient information for patrons.

Well worth doing, informative and a humbling experience. The museum and videos were worth viewing. Although I did expect a bigger museum. I didn’t expect the Bowfin submarine and the USS Missouri to be an additional charge, so missed out on that which was disappointing. I should have researched our tour better before selecting it as time didn’t permit us to visit these areas.
The USS Arizona memorial was a humbling experience, you could see sections of the battleship above the water and the oil that is still leaking from the ship.
The Park Rangers, Navy officers and staff were all very friendly.
This should definitely be on your list of places to visit.

We came here as part of a Pearl Harbor tour, but I wanted to write here separately to note that Lisa was an incredible tour guide and made our experience a great one! This ship is a cool part of U.S. history and I'd recommend it to anyone.

This was a personal test and I’m so proud to do it! From my awesome Uber driver Misa who got me there, the awesome people who helped cheer me on and helped keep me safe and the encouragement and support from family, friends, colleagues, this should be on your “must-do!” Shout out to the folks wearing rucks and weights who flew past me but still managed to slow down and called me “sir” in the nicest way, without saying “move over boomer” 😆 and for the folks my senior who reminded me how far I have to go, rock on!!

My one suggestion is definitely go early if you don't like crowds, but beach itself is very nice with white sand, spectacular views of Diamondhead and the ocean.

Beautiful hike. Not too far from Waikiki, all fitness levels and a pretty waterfall at the end. Other trails stem off of this trail if you are up for extending your time out. Bring bug spray and water and make sure you are in proper footwear. There are nice rock steps but, some uneven ground. It is in the mountainside and trees so it can get wet. Bring a poncho if that is something that concerns you.

This is an easy, paved trail that leads to beautiful views of the island. I think the lighthouse is just a small side quest. It is a gradual incline to the top and completely unshaded so be prepared to get a little hot & sweaty. Usually pretty busy, so getting there early is helpful to get better parking. There are no bathrooms at the parking lot so plan ahead.

Excellent place to learn more about their culture and just how much of their heritage is missing. What I noticed the most is just much the early settlers of these lands resemble Native Indians, Indians and Africans. From their facial features, to heights, builds let alone the clothes and dance routines.

Now I know more about Captain Cooke and the Dole empire.

In the Pearl Harbor Museum complex, there is a submarine museum that is associated with the history of WWII. One of the artifacts that is featured is the USS Bowfin Submarine. First swimming on December 7 1942, one year after the attack, she was known as the “Pearl Harbor Avenger,” with nine successful patrols within three years before the War ended. Some of the locations she was patrolling were the South China Sea, the Sea of Japan, and the Celebes Sea. This was my first time being on a submarine; I cannot believe how tight and narrow the walkways were. I give these service men and women who are stationed inside these submarines some credit. They are in these tight places trying to defend this great nation under the water of the seas. When in Pearl Harbor, take a stroll to the USS Bowfin and see what these service men and women lived and worked.

The several times I've been to Honolulu over the years, this was my 1st visit. I walked from downtown which is quite a walk mainly uphill if you're fit but took the Bus back.
Definitely a moving place to visit especially if you had family who served.
The visitor center is nice, with helpful staff and bathroom.
Then you walk or drive up hill until you see the vast area, with the memorial, halls, small chapel and mausoleums.
Nice views of the ocean and Diamondhead from below and afar.
Definitely worth a visit, around 2 miles from cruise port.

Interesting museum with immersive exhibits and artifacts. Recommend popping in and walking through Fort Derussy and it's very well maintained. Fairly accessible with seating areas and volunteers are friendly and welcoming. Self-guided and free admission. The gift shop was very well stocked.

Parking validation available, parking lot very close to museum across the street. We were recommended this museum after visiting the Tropic Lighting Museum on Schofield Barracks.

It was an impeccably wonderful stay at the heart of Hawaii.

I felt like I was pampered and relaxed.

I have only a few hiccup on the overall stay!
