What travellers are saying
- john FBirmingham, UK274 contributionsHad found details about this gallery on the web prior to our visit to Harderwijk, and boy am I so glad that we visited. The range of artwork on display was wide and covered a range of subjects, but all were painted with skill and hilarity. One of the paintings was a representaion of a family of birds but the "actors" were pears. All the paintings had a funny theme and made you spend time appreciating not only the talent of Marious van Dokkum but also his fantastic sense of humour. This is a "not to miss" gallery.Written 4 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GuppeCHulshout, Belgium654 contributionsIt is not an amusement parc, so if that is what your are coming for, you are in the wrong place. It is about the animals, get some extra knowledge and enjoy the beauty of seeing these animals at close distance. You get some explanation about the animals and yes you need to listen to some talks about the protection of the earth, reduce plastics etc. But than again, if that is what it takes to see those animals, it is not wrong at all.Written 23 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WorldTravelOneAmsterdam, The Netherlands8,643 contributionsThe city of Harderwijk did a great job in restoring city walls and city gates to its old glory. It adds character.Written 3 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- IslandzGirlGainesville, FL1,129 contributionsReally enjoyed the 2 hour 2pm tour by the Tourist Office for only 5 euros! Thanks Deiter for offering the tour in English also! Learned about the history, university and economics of this town since 1221. Amazing that parts of the city wall, completed in 1251, are still standing. The restoration the the calf leather painted panels in the old city hall (now tourist office) is amazing!!Written 29 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ArdhanareeshvaraPune, India915 contributionsAlmost a 100 years old but painstakingly restored and repaired to make it seaworthy is the āābotterā
or old fishing boat.
While it is no longer used for fishing it has been harnessed to provide a sailing outing to tourists in the Harderwijk lake. With a skipper and two sailors (who are volunteers) and seating about 15 people squeezed together along the bows one has to
constantly aware of the swinging of the boom to avoid being brained. It is nonetheless a exhilarating water ride on a sunny summerās day.Written 1 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The past in the form of three historic buildings has been buried behind an imposing neoclassicist facade typical for many 19th century public institutions. While looking at it, you get the impression the architecture serves to underscore the importance of the local elite. Not exactly gracious or open-minded.Written 10 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands3,933 contributionsStadshaven or City harbour is northeast of the historical Vischpoort in Harderwijk, roughly between Vischpoortbridge and Dolfinariumbridge. Facilities such as toilets are at the north side of the basin. Don't expect a magnificent historic setting as the quays are in newly developed areas. Perhaps to dock at the nearby Strandhaven is more convenient as you do not have to pass bridges. To stay here overnight (1 night) is not a problem.Written 10 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
