- Akos41Budapest, Hungary82 contributionsIt's a nice place, but if you ever did some snorkeling with fish, you won't find it super extraordinary. Nevertheless, it's still worth doing a visit if you are around. However, to make the most out of it, you need to do some planning.
Check the tide chart for Porto de Galinhas and go there during low tide. Actually, arrive roughly 1 hour before the lowest point of the tide so that you can book your ticket for the rafts and reach it by the time the tide gets the lowest. Try to do it during weekdays as weekends can get busy (even during low season in July).
Probably the safest is to buy your ticket in the official booth, which is a small blue "box" right where the promenade ends (near the big "Porto de Galinhas" sign). You can take your stuff in a bag and leave it on the raft, it won't get too wet. The guy "driving" the raft gave us goggles, but you can also bring your own. You need to walk on the rocks/reef for a short time. At sunset it's really amazing, one of the best of the entire trip.
We swam by the river and then saw the sunset.
We walked back to Maracaipe with the moon.

Many barracks, kiosks, and tours are located here.

Some areas have infrastructure while some other parts are more desert and quieter.

The guide Gi was super nice. At the tip of the beach you have the famous Serrambi Resort (one of the first all inclusive in the region)

In a very poetic way he explained about the "birth of the Chicken", and how he had the idea to carve from the trunk of coconut trees all the theme chickens you can find all over "Porto de Galinhas" town. His art has a very strong eco-sustainability message, as he uses all kinds of materials saved from the trash. They work around the clock to monitor and help all the female turtles which wash up on the beach to lay their eggs.
