Booked Agilan for a few friends who flew from Oslo. He took really good care of them. They thoroughly enjoyed his knowledge of the local markets

Our food tour with Captain Poh started with a fascinating stop at an artisan soya sauce producer Heng Lee Sauce Sdn Bhd, amazing how this tastes so much better than Kikkoman.

Then was a lunch stop at a traditional kopitiam for Lam Mee, Almond milk (not to be confused with the stuff they sell in supermarkets), Char Kway Teow (CKT), Iced Tea Tarik, Yam Rice & Mustard soup. The Lam Mee noodles were fresh & aromatic & the CKT was the best we’ve had.. delicious. As a tourist without Poh you’d never find these places.. the Hawker Stall owners happy to share their passion & recipes.. the Lam Mee guy detailed his sambal recipe to us made fresh each evening. Each dish was made by a separate chef each specialising in one dish as often is the case with street food vendors here.

We also grabbed snacks & a trip to the Clan Jetties. Plus a visit to an amazing cookware store for some Malaysian cookware essentials & we even grabbed some local cook books. Poh went above & beyond!

Then the food tour finale with Captain Poh was a seafood restaurant called 佳味餐室 Kabee (鱼头米粉). Again without her expert guidance you’d not find this gem. We had Deep Fried Mantis Prawn, Fried Whole Mullet, Deep Fried Goliath Grouper, BBQ Pork Skewer & Seafood Porridge with Mud Crab, Flower Crab, Giant Wild Freshwater Prawns & Mince Pork with broth from giant grouper bones. All absurdly delicious.. the groupers they get are huge like 50-100kg & apparently we were lucky with the choice of prawns available. Brilliant place buzzing with locals.

This is a great day where you get to eat like locals.. and a highlight of our time in Penang! Thanks Poh.. ps come hungry!
