Parkson Grand is a high end department store occupying one corner of the biggest mall in Penang. Marks &Spencer has a smaller shop here too on the ground floor where main tenants are big international luxury brands. The upper levels hold all mobile phone companies and several smaller local businesses, mainly fashion. The food market in the basement is excellent and is surrounded by restaurants and take aways for all tastes.

There are 3 malls around Penang which are worth for visiting, and this mall is considered the best. You guys can put some sparetime to spend here.

No matter what part of Asia you find yourself in one of the great things to experience is a night market. The Batu Ferringhi Night Market is a great place for clothing bargains as well as food outlets. Don't forget to bargain, its part of the fun.

If something is missing from Plaza come here to find it. My favourite is the large Bookexcess store upstairs selling new publishers' cast out editions in English starting from 18 rm. Browsing the endless rows of books I have made acquintance with lots of new interesting authors. There is a supermarket also in this basement.

Every Sunday from 11 o'clock the old bus depot near Komtar hosts a craft and food market popular with tourists and locals. Many are selling selfmade artefacts, jewellery, candles, paintings and then there is the guy with a collection of incredible live insects hiding among leafs in terrariums. A large selection of Asian dishes is cooked on the premises by eager home chefs.

Mobile phone and accessories stores fill the ground floor of this older mall next to the bus depot at Komtar. Upstairs is an assortment of outlets selling inexpensive shoes and fashion. I had my hair trimmed and bought my favourite ankle socks that last forever at Sock Box, 5 pairs for 12 rm.

Very pleasant marina and play area, but cameras are not allowed. A great pity, and there was no such problem during my previous visits pre-covid.

Locals shop here for fish, chicken, vegetables and fruits as there are no supermarkets in the idyllic residential neighborhood by the long clean beach. The fishing village next to the Floating Mosque guorantees fresh catch. There is also a large food court and a new recycling facility in the complex.

Newer than Prangin this mall next to it offers more international fashion brands and has a supermarket and several restaurants in the basement. Empire sushi take away on the 4th floor is so popular that they run out of products quite early.

A native friend recommended this market to go to for the best breakfast duck kway teow (flat rice noodles - gluten free) soup at only 6RM! There were also other local delicacies to enjoy like penang laksa, char kway teow, poh piah etc. Old school biscuit stand

I contacted David for his photo printing services, which I am very satisfied with the photos I got, he is very knowledgeable in the field of photography, a direct result of working for Reuters almost 30 years as photographer. I highly recommend if you want to print BIG.
David’s gallery is a must visit place, by appointment only. He has amazing photos about Malaysia, he works closely with Penang tourism to promote Penang/Malaysia. Kudos to his efforts. Being a Malaysian himself, he is very friendly and helpful to people like me, visiting Penang.

Mainly kaftans and batik are sold in the old fashioned market in front of Indian Mydin budget store. The practical house dresses come in many different qualities, the cheapest are in bulk printed polyester and the better in viscose with big flower motives, rarely nowadays handpainted. For real silk you have to look in speciality shops.

Interesting old Chinese and Malay artefacts can be found in this gallery which looks like it has been in the same family for decades. The collection of cloisonnee clocks is impressing like the art objects carved from bone, which animal not specified. Bigger items like wood and bronze statues have a layer of dust over them. The building is a good representative of late 20th century modernism.

There are many areas in Penang with streets lined with hawkers and coffee shops, including Penang Street. Sitting down at one coffeeshop we were able to order the famous Penang Street chendol, as well as some rojak, both were quite decent, and the cold chendol especially welcoming in the hot afternoon sun.
