What travellers are saying
- hbhakhRoanoke, VA2,268 contributionsWe took a boat tour (and a cruise) through the Beagle Channel. The scenery is amazing....snow capped mountains, wildlife, and even penguins. We were lucky to have great weather so viewing was very easy. Any trip through the Beagle Channel is going to be great.Written 31 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Wayne OCanberra, Australia17 contributionsA beautiful National Park with such rich colours and diversity in landforms. It's an easy day trip with the local guides doing a wonderful job of taking you to stunning locations and points of interesting geography. Beautiful landscapes, trees, and mountains. The ocean views are something else.Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AvgMom2TravelLong Island, NY390 contributionsMy husband and I hiked Laguna Esmeralda last November. It snowed the night before our hike so we knew the trail will be very muddy. Luckily, we were prepared for this condition so had brought along our rubber shoe covers from home. This saved our hiking shoes from being ruined.
Our wonderful host in Ushuaia arranged our taxi ride. It took about 20 minutes to get to the parking lot and cost us 23 USD r/t. We shared the ride with another couple and there was no entrance fee for this trail.
Our driver told us he’ll pick us up in four hours and gave each of us a walking stick. I didn’t think I needed one, but realized very soon into the hike how GLAD I was to have the pole when I got stuck in ankle-deep mud! The trail was muddy all the way to the lagoon – with some portion covered in wooden planks. You don’t need a guide for this hike. There are markers along the trail, but we mostly followed other hikers.
There’s no bathroom or vendor selling food along the trail, so have a light breakfast and bring water and snacks (i.e. banana). There were also no trash bins, so be sure to take your trash with you. The lagoon was indeed very pretty, but it’s the scenery along the way that was breathtaking. We wished we had more time because we rushed in the end. Highly recommend this trail if you are visiting Ushuaia!Written 9 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very scenic views of the mountains and the Beagle Channel below. Take a taxi to the trailhead, Taxis were waiting a cab stand to take you back to town. The trail is steep take the trail up not the ski run. You will pass through Patagonia forests before coming out of the tree line, The trail is steep but if you use to few switchback in the upper part of trail the hike is a little easier. Fantastic surrounding mountain views and of the city and sea below. There is a tea house and a small restaurant for a snack before of after the hike. There is a side trail halfway up 1 mile there and back. More great views, however, return on this same trail, if you see a yellow trail going down from this trail avoid it, it very steep and slipperyWritten 25 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GlobetrottingSwedeParis, France3,274 contributionsThis is a surprisingly large museum for a city like Ushuaia. It is hosted in the former prison, and each wing of the prison is a different museum: Antarctica, exploration, flora, fauna, history, etc.

He was a difficult hike to to length, mud, and steep portions. The altitude was not a problem and the change in elevation was not a problem. Once we got to the lake, we simply walked around on a well worn path to the glacier where we found some small overhangs and inserts to investigate. You can see the rocks frozen in time in the ice. There was a crack you could see the sky. Underneath the glacier was blue ice.
Even though the hike was long and difficult, it was worth it. Be prepared for water, mud, and slippery conditions. The guides say 8 hours; we did it in 6. this depends on your fitness and how much time you want to sightsee. Bring water and food and pack out what you bring in.Written 20 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
