What travellers are saying
- DrMomMaryland49 contributionsSo I’ll be honest my family really likes history and we are a military family to boot, but this was a great self guided tour! It is a big ship so be prepared for lots of twists, turns and stairs. Definitely not for those who find steps hard. Lots of great information about the history as well as boat life in general. I do wish there was someone was there on the boat to answer questions too. I image it could be really hot in the summer but perfect for a nice spring day. The tour took us about two hours and we certainly didn’t read everything there was to read or watch. One more suggestion, at checkout at the store, have a “tip” area for a donation. Some people who may not have donated prior (when purchasing tickets) may be compelled to after learning the history and sacrifice.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lisa LWebster, United States18 contributionsA fascinating look at life in the early 1800's. You can go on a self guided tour or have a tour guide. You can walk through the slave quarters and the mansion. So much history that we should never forget. The architecture and the decor was amazing considering the time in which it was built.Written 28 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WrldTraveler1789Austin, TX100 contributionsThe river walk is definitely a cute stroll that lets you explore a variety of restaurants and little shops that are situated along the waterfront. Most of the places along the walk have the cool coastal colonial architecture. Certainly worth taking the time and strolling along to explore parts of the city.Written 10 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CTYankee143Greenville, SC39 contributionsBeautiful Victorian homes in downtown. There seems to be a surge in restorations making the historic section very interesting, walkable and educational with all the historic markers. Additionally the restaurants offer great food and water views along the river or the inland waterway.Written 5 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WrldTraveler1789Austin, TX100 contributionsThe downtown area is pretty cute. Everything is walkable and places are not far apart. You can easily walk the whole downtown area. Streets are clean and cool old building line the waterfront. PAY FOR PARKING, is the best advice I can give you. The meter-maids are relentless and efficient there. Besides that, everything else is nice to see.Written 25 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- LisaN0421Chester, VA76 contributionsMy husband and I visited the tasting room as part of our anniversary celebration. We enjoyed a delicious wine tasting and interesting chat with Noni Bacca herself. After our tasting we struggled to choose which wine to have a glass of and to purchase by the bottle as we truly liked all of the wines we tasted. We will be back, both as a couple and with friends and we also plan to bring our out-of-town visitors.Written 27 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FarAway75081410 contributionsPoplar Grove’s Executive Director gave one of the best historical plantation tours we have ever taken. Her insights into the daily lives of enslaved people were unvarnished and thought provoking. She possessed vast knowledge of the topic and had a very engaging way of delivering her message. Excellent tour.Written 27 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ChuckDallasDallas, TX240 contributionsMy son (age 16) attended Sea Turtle Camp Hawaii for a two week adventure in July 2023. I was wary of how it would go, since he had never been away for that length of time and without access to a cellular device. My concerns were misplaced. He had a wonderful time! I think the group was about 12 students and they seemed to coalesce as a term very quickly. The camp "leaders", Madeline, Molly, and Ryan were all excellent. Drop-off at Honolulu airport was seemless as was pickup two weeks later. Everyday the Camp posted pictures of that particular days' activities so it was obvious from the photos that everyone was having a grand time. There are many forms to complete but given the range of activities it was reasonable, just time consuming. That is my only minor whine. 100% recommendation.Written 9 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- CPCTravelerBoston, MA67 contributionsWe went without much expectation, but found an amazing collection of contemporary art -- including video and sculptural or otherwise 3-D constructed art - in a beautiful space. The collection was smart and thoughtful and we got to interact with some of the pieces (a giant sculpture on wheels and an invitation to use a typewriter to add our own love story). It was a rainy day (post hurricane) so we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor sculptures as much, but I highly recommend a visit!Written 14 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
