Among children's science museums, I'd consider this one of the very best, for the diversity of its exhibits, its emphasis on learning by doing, and the sheer joy it gives to the kids lucky enough to visit. Youngsters really can't come here and just gawk, moving quickly from one thing to another, because each exhibit invites -- indeed, almost demands -- both action and interaction that are the real key to learning.

Take the do-it-yourself, build whatever-you-can-think-of corner on the second floor. Here in a generous space are all the things kids need to build just about anything they can imagine. There are so many different-sized pieces of wood and rods and connectors and wheels that the kids can try to build just about anything from a simple chair or table to a small car they can push about for themselves or share with others.

The bigger, more ambitious projects easily invite other kids to join and to do so constructively. I saw no fights, nor anyone grabbing away items for himself or herself. Instead, boys and girls of diverse ages were quickly drawn into cooperating with each other. Once one child started on a project, others jumped right in.

The results were quite incredible, and it was a pleasure to see the end results of their endeavors, such as the completion of a rough car that was ridden and/or pushed by all the kids who helped make it.

Everywhere we looked, there were hands and minds busy doing things. Maybe they were fascinated by the giant ant farm right at kids' eye level in a very large see-through complex. Great. Maybe they just wanted to make as much noise as they could, using some cool bell, instrument, or small hammer. Ditto. There was something there for everyone, of every age and every interest.

Honestly, it was a pleasure to be here for hours, chasing around with our grandson as he eagerly went from exhibit to exhibit and then did it all again. Great day. We drove almost two hours to get here, and every minute was worth the trip here, a two-hour drive for us.

    Highly recommended.

The Norwich Farmer's Market is held outside during the warmer months and is held at an inside location in the winter months. A great place to enjoy locally grown food, much being organically grown. Always a pleasure to visit with live music and food venues.

Stopped by here for local pumpkins, great selection and very reasonable prices. Fresh vegetables were awesome.

This was one of our favorite stops along the way. The sandwiches were great and the pastries were amazing. I loved the chocolate croissant.

A perfect visit to go back in time and find almost anylittle thing I need (or want). Variety of colored embroidery thread, old fashion candies, fishing equipment and impossible to find, hand tools.

We stayed for a week while my daughter attended science camp at Montshire Museum. This was our second year and it was great again. Other guests not as funny as last year, but so it goes.
