- Jennifer M3 contributionsWe had the most incredible experience doing the tasting and light lunch here. My husband and I are in Italy for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. Lorenzo truly made it an unforgettable experience. His tour and knowledge of the wines was fascinating. We learned so much about the tuscan wine production and how it is evolving. The wine was the best we've had, The super tuscan that was released early is out of this world. Could not help but send some home. Beware the lunch is not light! Haha but every bite was amazing. If you are looking for a large producer this is not it but if you're looking for delicious organic wine and an intimate experience, look no further!Written 18 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - stephie18Philadelphia, PA35 contributionsMy husband, son (21) and I went to Tenuta Casanova today and had the absolute best experience. The owner, Silvano, gave us a short tour of the vineyard and where the balsamic is aged. Then we had a home cooked lunch - made by his wife - while we tasted five different wines. The food was unbelievable and the wines were fantastic. We have been to Sonoma and Napa in California and this wine tasting and food paring blew those visits out of the water. We wanted to do a cooking class but it wasn’t offered, as it’s the winter. But we didn’t miss out because the lunch and wine pairing was so spectacular. This is a MUST do if visiting Florence or any of the surrounding towns in Tuscany.Written 24 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve MMiami, FL37 contributionsSuperb wine, people, and food!! We spent an afternoon with Carlo and met the owner. They prepared an amazing spread of food, pasta and chicken basted in Merlot. The wine tour included a ton of information on how they make their wines including the biodynamic process. I’ve been thru parts of California and can’t say I’ve ever experienced or enjoyed wine and the makers in this way. Must must go!!Written 11 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- F S2 contributionsLovely afternoon spent here. The tower is accessed through the museum, which is a brilliant little display of local history. Much of it is available in 2 languages.
Once upstairs, the views are really worth the ascent.Written 10 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were interested in the wine and some food, so they directed us to their cafe in town and that was a great little surprise. We ended spending most of the afternoon with Simone. We had a lunch and a tasting and Simone's explanation of the wines and pairings were great. We ended up buying some lovely wines.Written 30 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JMGenevaGeneva, Switzerland1,973 contributionsCatsellina is essentially one street (for tourists), so once you've done it a couple of times, why not follow this parallel passage. Not much in it but the medieval architecture is both original and superb.Written 12 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cynthia9438 contributionsVisited Casamonti as part of ArtViva's Best of Tuscany day trip, and it was the highlight (of an overall awesome day). Anna Rita creates a lovely Tuscan lunch, some of the best food we had in Italy, featuring meats from their special cinta senese piggies. Yum. Also features their olive oil and wine, and vast knowledge of agriculture in Tuscany. An outstanding and memorable experience. White truffle oil and 25-yr aged balsamic too...Written 13 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rachel HEdinburgh, UK47 contributionsInformative and friendly, Ilaria spent time explaining everything about a variety of wines, as well as oil and balsamic vinegar. There was no 'hard sell', which actually meant that we bought more than we planned to! Grazie mille, Ilaria!Written 28 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Roberts BWinston Salem, NC184 contributionsWe visited Monteriggioni for the morning and wanted to have a tasting at a nearby winery for lunch. We had thoroughly enjoyed a Villa Trasqua white wine at dinner a few days before, so we decided to give them a try. What a great choice! Loretta was an interesting, thorough, and attentive hostess. Her pours were quite substantial: we 5 finished each bottle she brought to us (including a 4th one not listed on our 22 euro pp price. The charcuterie servings were plentiful and tasty, so it was a perfect light lunch. The views are serene, and their wines are excellent across the board. We ordered multiple cases to be shipped home. Don’t be turned off by the gravel road up the hillside into the forest. It is well worth the 10 minutes on the well maintained road.Written 10 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brun066Florence, Italy12,580 contributionsThe Chianti region is now world famous; but in past centuries its role was marginal. The fame of its wine was weak (only in the mid-nineteenth century the rules for the winemaking of "Chianti Classico" were codified); the fame of its landscape was non-existent, as there were no postmodern travelers, who today appreciate the traditional Tuscan countryside as it would represent "the past". The landscape (any landscape) was appreciated if (and only if) it denoted luxuriance, wealth, abundance. And Chianti - strictly understood - did not stand out for these qualities. It was sparsely populated and the agriculture that was practiced here was mostly for survival.
The inhabited centers of Chianti - including Casellina - were the consequence of this condition. No "cities" here (before the 1348 "Black Plague", in Tuscany the centers at least reaching 3-4000 inhabitants could be considered cities), but only small-sized villages, in an area overall little populated. Among these villages is undoubtedly Castellina, anyway one of the three capitals of three "terzieri" (districts) of the Lega del Chianti (the others were Gaiole and Radda).
Castellina had a wall circle, still well recognizable in some parts; which is no without importance. But the walls themselves appear to be late: the chronicles say that they were set up in the first decades of the fifteenth century; previously, in case of war, the population could only take refuge in a fortified part that must have been very small, precisely the "Castellina" (= small fortified spot), which gives the place its name. And the modest size of the historic town, even once the larger walls have been built, can also be appreciated by the traveler who measures the distance between the sites of the two ancient gates, Fiorentina and Senese.
Moreover, even on this tiny scale, the reasons for appreciation that are typical of the historical centers of Tuscany persist: pedestrianization, good buildings' condition, respect for the traditional building fabric.
Of course, even Castellina doesn't resemble what it was still only 50 years ago: properly agricultural functions have disappeared, agriculture has become "branding", shops have become sophisticated, "where once there was not even Parmesan now you can buy the blue Cheddar”, real estate agencies offer for sale villas with land in the surrounding countryside, at prices mostly in excess of one million euros.
You may like it or not, but it is. And many like it.Written 7 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. For a start the winery is in a beautiful setting and the staff are helpful and enthusiastic. We learnt the history of the family who own it, their traditional and organic methods of cultivation. The tour of the cellars was amazing, great for photos but awesome in terms of the volume of priceless wines in store there. We were also able to peep through the windows and see the bunches of white grapes drying naturally in readiness for the magic process of turning them into Vin Santo S. Niccolo. Needless to say the three wines we tasted were just delicious. The winery also produces its own olive oil. The wine labels are beautiful as well as informative......they show local birds, some of which are rare like the oldest and finest wines. Think I might have to move to Tuscany.Written 3 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
