If you used to sail with Island Cruises, this is the closed you can get to their free, fun, relaxed style. Discovery 2 is a beautiful ship, well maintained and the crew is just another level of friendliness.

We arrived Singapour at the start of our Marella Fascinating Far East cruise on the 29th Feb 24. We found we had to collect our suitcases and take them to a lorry outside, which was different from a previous visit. We stayed in a "Deluxe Balcony Cabin" which i must say was in need of an upgrade, stain on the carpet, cracked soap dish and torn net curtain in general tired cabin, but it was clean. It also had No tissues, soap was provided first day no replacement soap provided or robes, No extras at all. The meals in general were satisfatory, but not amazing, the desserts were poor. The KORA LA and SERF & TURT you paid extra supplements for, main courses were decidedly better, but still let down by desserts. The choclate Souffle in the 47 restaurant was best of all, but let down by a cracked dish!! We had the premium drinks package as a treat, but unfortunately some premium drinks were out of stock. The shows were very good and we particularly enjoyed the columbian professional dancers who are outstanding. The game shows in the Squid & Anchor were entertaining. Out of 14 day cruise only 3 were sea days so we went on lots of excursions, Singapour is beautiful, LangKawi is unspoilt and Vietnam is memorable for its raw simple life style when you walk through the local market. We did this cruise in 2019 and ASIA has so much to see & do we decided to go again and still it leaves much more to offer. Unfortunately the standard of Marella has slipped, but it still offered value for money, in my opinion

Just back from a cruise to Caribbean and Cuba on Explorer 2 . This ship is almost 40 years old and looks and feels very tired . Think it should have been scrapped rather than refurbished . The ship layout is poor for this type of al fresco cruise 1.5 outside bars to service 1800 passengers on sea days - joke . Temporary stations to avoid queuing were ok to a point but no selection of beverages. Organisation of embarkation and disembarkation was really poor compared to the Barbados trips . Ship hygiene poor and we had outbreak of noro virus 1/2 way through cruise . They shut down whole pool area for deep clean - so no pool for hot day air sea . Food was ok and restaurant staff brilliant. Cabins not bad but no fridges - obviously removed and not replaced to cut down on refurb costs . Rooms looked tired and corridors showed their age and all the emergency warning signs needed replacement . But Cuba was brilliant so why are you stopping goin* there ? 24 hour flight delay was unfortunate and very badly managed by crew on board . No TUI representatives at the overnight hotel or next day at Montego Bay airport . When will TUI realise that Marella the Airline TUI holidays are all part of the same group . 2 stars only fur Cuba and staff otherwise would have been 0

Outbound flight to Singapore was good with very efficient, nice Cabin Crew (flew Premium). Boarded the ship and it took circa 4 hours for luggage to reach our Cabin, which we had upgraded to a ‘Deluxe’ Balcony Cabin at a cost of circa £1700. The Cabin was very tired and dated and certainly not to the standard we were expecting for a ‘Deluxe’ Cabin. The Balcony door surround was very dirty and the curtain was badly torn (see photos below). The Cabin furniture had lots of chips in it, the shower was absolutely tiny, and the water was frequently lukewarm. Didn’t complain initially because we were very tired after the journey and couldn’t be asked. We were then busy ‘touring.’ Did complain after about 6 days simply because it’s not good enough and shouldn’t be like that. To come to TUI’s defence a bit, two days after we complained, they did ask if we wanted to move to a Suite for 4 days towards the end of the Cruise which we did. Even though the Suite was still dated, it was much cleaner, massive and had ongoing hot water every day. We were grateful for the move and thoroughly enjoyed the Cabin for the final days of our Cruise. However it did also highlight how very bad the ‘Deluxe’ Cabin was. The ‘Pool’ was at best a ‘dip’ pool rather than a swimming pool and there is a grille between what I assumed to be Paddling pool and the Adult pool. I noticed from day two that this grille was thick with what I assume was sun cream. It was revolting and if you touched it in error you were left with nasty sticky fingers/hands. Although we saw the pool emptied, we didn’t once see the edges or the grille cleaned. We found the food to be acceptable in Islands Buffet, and pretty good in the ‘47’ Restaurants. We also used the Surf’nTurf (still can’t get my head around ‘All Inclusive that actually isn’t - Holiday should be classified as ‘part inclusive.’). The food was lovely and great service, however there was a big supplement per person for this. The Bars were nice and the Service was very good. Entertainment in the Live Bar was really good. The Shows were fairly good, even if not our thing. The Excursions on offer were great, but expect them to be about an hour longer than you thought. Particularly liked to Speed Boat to Phi Phi and the R & R day in Langkawi. Hoh Chi Minh City is chaotic, but interesting to see. Singapore is easy to navigate yourself and a fabulous clean and efficient place. I would however recommend the Singapore by Night Tour. Enjoyed the Cruise overall but certainly wouldn’t use TUI again - in our view as far as the Cabin was concerned, you don’t get what you pay for. ‘Deluxe’ it was not.

An amazing cruise around south east asia. Transfer in Singapore was seamless and our bags were delivered straight to the cabin. We had an inside cabin which although a bit tight was fine as we were hardly in there except to sleep and shower ( we took a night light which we left on the dressing table a tip from another traveler) . Food was ok but was better on previous Marella cruises we didn’t eat in the paying restaurants as they were always fully booked. The second week we decided to have breakfast in 47 which we enjoyed more than the buffet on deck 9.Afternoon tea was lovely and we had this on the sea days. A couple of the broadway shows were exceptional,Sin city and songs from the west end and broadway, the singers and dancers were just amazing especially a chap who sang a couple of songs from Les Mis. There were also two dancers from Colombia who would give strictly a run for their money ! There was other entertainment in the squid and anchor most nights. Now for the port stops; Bangkok long way from the port takes at least 2 hours each way we had 4 hours just time to see Grand palace and reclining Buddha this was with TUI. Dropped off at Grand palace so not much walking . Ho Chi Minh again 2 hours each way and about 4 hours in the city however we saw quite a bit as everything was near where the bus dropped us.Really liked this city just watching the scooters was fascinating they do not stop for you ! The other stops we used local taxis which are always waiting outside the ports and you can negotiate a price. We used one for Kula Lumpur cost us about £75.00 he stayed with us all day and took us to the Batu Caves ( fantastic) then into the city stopped by the towers for photos then to the KL towers for amazing views of the city then to Chinatown .Considering the journey was 2 hours there and 1.5 back and in plenty of time for the ship great value. Enjoyed all the ports however our two favourites were Singapore and Langkawi Singapore is so efficient clean safe and easy to travel round using the MRT and the sights all quite close together. Langkawi is just a beautiful island again we had a driver and he took us to the cable car and the mangroves. The 2 hour trip round the mangroves was one of our favourite trips of the holiday we decided to treat ourselves to a boat just for the two of us it was truly amazing a must if you visit this island. The cable car and the views are great however it is really really busy and you spend a lot of time queuing. We also went to old town Phuket ( port is Patong) had a great few hours had a Thai massage £10.00 each for 1 hour wonderful and lovey lunch and bit of shopping. Penang we hired a tryshaw he took us around the street art which is certainly worth seeing. In conclusion it was a brilliant cruise so glad we did it yes they can be long days but we visited some great places . Hope this review is of help
