Hello Anthony C:
It seems we'll be doing a similar route: from Ulan Ude , westward , through Moscow to St. Petesburg on the trans-Siberian railway. We'll be coming from Mongolia - should we book tickets in advance in Mongolia or get to Ulan Ude (we're planning 3 days at Lake Baikal around Ulan Ude) and get our ticket westward there ? It'll be Sep. 15. Also, which other stops along the way west are good to stop at ? Novosibirsk ? Tomsk ? we have a week en route to St. Petersburg - there we will stay 4 days.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give us,
Dan & Gabriela
I am 53, and planning to take a train trip with one of my friend from St. Petersburg Russia to Moscow and then onwards to Vladivostok Russia through Trans Siberian Railways next year. Then we want to fly to Beijing China to see The Great Wall of China. I am looking for someone who can advise me about the fares, tickets and how to save on everything during the trip.
My family and I are thinking of doing the trans Siberian rail trip.Do you think it is suitable for an 11 year old and a 17 year old?
I would like to contact people who have traveled on this trip to hear of their experiences personally.
Can anyone tell us what the cost of drinks in the drinks car, on the Golden Eagle Luxury train, cost when not included with meals?
This is really a trip I want to do but would like to know how much walking is involved in the day time excursions. Is it possible to sit out some trips on the coach for example. My husband walks slowly, would that be annoying for the rest of the group?
Do you have to carry your bags?
