Where exactly should I park the car to visit the park? how long is the walk from the parking?
How cold is it in mid March?
There is a car park at the entrance and the distance is 1.6KM(one way) from the car park to the monkey park. We were there in mid December and it snow the day before. So the trail is a bit muddy. There are snow boots and jacket for rent at the shop near the car park.
Though the distance is 1.6KM, we did not felt tired as the weather was cooling at that time and we took a lot of photos of the snow covered forest along the way.
There was no wind so it was bearable with a thick jacket.
Take note that the monkeys only come and bath at the onsen during the cold months.
I was there in February and the ground was covered in snow but the temperature on the day wasn’t too bad, about +5 Celsius. Proper shoes for snow and a good jacket etc should suffice.
There is a car park at the bottom of the hill, where the bus stop is.
We got the bus & walked to the Monkey park, it’s is a beautiful walk through the woods on a dirt path, but well maintained. It took us 30 minutes to reach the monkey park entrance at a brisk pace. We went in October so I don’t know what the weather will be like in March. Hope this helps & enjoy your time in Japan
There is a public parking (with vlean public toilets) a few meters away from the entrance to the park. It will take you one or two minutes walk from the parking lot to the entrance of the park. From the entrance, you will walk uphill to the snow monkey park for 20 minutes. The walk is easy but can get slippery during snow falls. I am not sure about the temperature during March. It is best to check from Google for average temperature throughout the year. Overall, nothing to be worried. It will be an easy visit, except some slippery walkway during some part of the year. The appropriated shoes can be rent at the entrance of the park
