The park should be open and the weather should be starting to get nice that time of year. I hope you make it and enjoy your trip.

The park is open year round so you should be able to get to the lake. The west rim is closed for construction so you can't do a driving loop around the lake.

But you can take hikes and also do the east rim drive with plenty of breathtaking viewing pull over spots.

We drove up from the southern entrance. Hiked a bit on the western drive area near the lodge. And then drove the east rim drive. We left from the north entrance. It was perfect!!!!

Enjoy!

As noted by A Rodriguez, May should be seeing clear roads and certainly better rates in local lodgings and fewer people on those roads and in the park. I'm thinking May would be an excellent time to visit. Prepare to have a breathtaking experience, right up there with the Grand Canyon.

Well being the Spring season I would believe access to the National Park shouldn't be a problem though you might still encounter some snow. For me the shoulder seasons of May and September are usually the best times of year to visit our most popular National Parks and May probably will have quite a few Spring blooms that are less visible at other times of year!
