We have a 79 year old mum with us is this walk suitable or too steep ?
Hello, sorry I've not come back sooner, as regards the 79 year old, I would say not suitable, to be honest there are no easy routes and it's quite a steep climb. Best not to put yourself in any danger.
Really depends on how fit your mum is.
My dad is 80 and it is a breeze for him.
If your mum is used to general walking then try the circuit around Rydal Water as an alternative. If your mum manages this then progress onto Loughrigg on another day.
Too steep, I couldn't see anyone this age managing it unless used to this terrain and walking for a few hours. I'm quite fit as a long distance runner and I found it tough.
Depends how fit your mum is. It.s on the road/ good wide path to the apex of the walk ...after that - fine. If your mum can do eg Latrigg above Keswick, this walk will be fine for her.
Hi, I'd be worried about the climb down. It's very step and slippy. I fell a few times.
IMO the fell is steep and can be slippery on the man made path.
If you view pictures of Loughrigg terrace the start of the climb is to the right when viewed from the lake.
I don't know your plans but the walk along Grasmere/ Terrace/ Rydal Water is nice. We walked from Ambleside / Glen Rothay/ Rydal/ Terrace/ Grasmere and that was about 5 miles.
