Hi John! I have clients who will be cruising with Viking this summer, and they are staying at Hotel Spalentor. How long was the ride from the hotel to the cruise port?
Hello..we took a cab from Hotel Spalentor to the port and I thought it was a bit pricey for less than a 10 minute ride. If I recall, we paid $52 which included the tip. This was for the two of us. Depending on your ability to manage your baggage, this worked for us.
The hotel provided us with complimentary tram/bus service and if I was traveling alone, that would have been my choice of transport. Have a great cruise and enjoy wonderful Hotel Spalentor...say hi to Amanda (front desk)...she is wonderful!
Sorry. No idea. We arrived by train.
We just got back from the Viking Rhine river cruise on the Viking Eir. It docked next to the Johannspark area and we walked to the Hotel Spalentor. It was about 15 mins, mostly uphill. We are in our 50's, in good shape and pack just carry on baggage so take that into consideration. It would be a 5 minute cab ride which Viking can set up for you. We were with Family in their 60's and they managed fine also. Hope this helps
Sorry for a late answer bu we are always travelling! Now in Florida. The tram is free and like everything in Switzerland they are clean and work well. Taxi is expensive compared to Germany but they are very reliable. I was in my rental car so no need of taxi but took the tram twice.
There are three different places to embark. Which port is Viking at? We stayed at the Hotel Spalentor (great place!) in October and left on an Ama Waterways cruise. It was a short bus ride (#30 bus) from outside the hotel to the waterfront (less than 10 min.) and then a 5 minute walk along the river to the port near St. Johannspark.
If your port is on the east side of the river, you can either take the tram #3 from the Spalentor gate , then switch to the #8 tram at Barfusselplatz, or you can get on the #30 bus (again at the Spalentor gate) and take it to the Feldbergstrasse stop (the second one after crossing the river) and then transfer to the #8 tram. The public transportation there is great!
