Himalaia Soldeu Questions & Answers

How much is it to ski locally here? Can you do it once you get to hotel? Never planned a ski trip before so some advice would be great.

You can do it when you get there but by far the cheapest way is to go onto the website Soldeu. com where you can choose packages which include ski hire, lessons, lift passes and even lunch. The lunch option worked out to be half the cost of buying it on the day and included a burger or panini, drink and chips. The hotel is ideally situated for the lifts and the ski area is Perfect for skiers of all levels of experience. The ski lift pass covers the whole area and is called Grand Vilaria, not sure I've spelt that right, also if you haven't been skiing before I would suggest you take lessons as the instructors take you all over the area so that when you go off on your own in the afternoon you feel more comfortable knowing where you are going. Can't praise the area high enough. If I can help in any other way please ask.

Soldeu isn't the cheapest place to ski in Europe but in my opinion, has to be one of the best places for English language ski tuition. The ski school is excellent, many of the instructors are primary English speakers. The terrain is extensive and there are a number of good beginner areas scattered throughout the Grand Valeria ski area. Also specific areas for kids.

The Hotel is good value, well placed in the centre of town.

As others have said, a number of ski deals are available. If you are a complete beginner, you may be able to get a local area pass for the Soldeu area, where there would be more than enough skiing available, rather than the full Grand Valarie pass, which gives access to circa 200 km of piste, but you are unlikely to move outside the fairly extensive local area on a first holiday. It is many years since I checked on availability of the local pass, but it used to be available via the "learn to ski packages.

Yes, you can book skiing when you get there but it may work out a little more expensive. You can book a ski pass for any length of time depending on how many days you are there and how many days you want to ski for. There are plenty of ski rental shops to hire your equipment from as well. I would recommend booking ski school before you go (they get booked up early) if you haven't skied before.
