You cannot use the card outside of the city boundaries.

We were on an all inclusive tour so we’re picked up and returned by the tour company reps in their buses.

Unfortunately the VTP is not valid for travel to and from the airport as the airport is outside the city limits

I'm sorry I can't answer that as we paid cash for our train ticket. However, I do know that, at the airport at the top of the ramp leading down to the platforms, there is a very helpful rail ticket desk. The CAP train is MUCH more expensive than the Schnellbahn (fast local train) which we were recommended to use. From memory, we paid ~€9 for a return ticket for 2 persons as opposed to about €48 with the CAP. (You have to specify the date of your return travel if going for the cheaper option). The Schnellbahn is a stopping train but takes only about ½hour to get to central Mitte Station. Good luck.

To be honest, I am not completely sure.

We were told at reception that we could buy a ticket on the bus and also use the same ticket on the metro after (one way). But I don’t know if this will work for the airport service.

Reception were very helpful. You can email them

No. You need to buy separate tickets. The CAT is more than double price compared to the other airport trains like the S7. Only advantage is that you save a few minutes.
