Dan Boutique Jerusalem Questions & Answers

Evanston, Illinois

We've read that the walk to the Old City takes about 15 to 20 minutes via Jaffe Gate . Is it a strenuous walk? Is it safe to walk after sundown?

I felt totally safe -the walk isn’t that strenuous or though there is a gentle incline on both routes to and from

As WN pointed out, it’s totally safe. The inclines, however, are actually quite steep. Many walk there and taxi back for $10, $15 after 9:00 pm.

It's a bit of a strenuous walk. There's a place in a parking lot across from the hotel where you can get a free shuttle. Ask the guest services person (Rachel?) or someone at the front desk. You go across the street and down to your left into the parking lot. She walked us there one morning. I would recommend you do that. There will be plenty of walking once you get to the Old City. Enjoy!

HI,

Well, it's not that strenous walk but a short one. Regarding night time, we've been walking several times during our visit with a small child and it was O.K. very safe.

In any cse, if you feel more comfortableyou can always order a taxi from the hotel. But, relly, it's a walking distance and quite safe.

Hope i've helped.

Enjoy your trip,

If you are walking from the Dan Boutique Hotel I think it will take longer. We found it quite safe to walk after dark but I'd suggest you keep to the popular areas

The closest Old City gate is Zion Gate, about 800m from the Hotel. To Jaffa Gate is a further 200m, which makes it 1 km from the Hotel in total. The way is 50% downhill and 50% uphill. How long it takes to walk it, depends on you. I don't think it's strenuous, but this may be subjective. When going from the Hotel to the Old City, I always preferred to enter the Zion Gate. Yes, it is a bit steep and has some stairs, but once you are inside the Old City, the way to Jaffa Gate is flat, very pleasant, and gives you the opportunity to see the Armenian area with its beautiful handicraft shops. I think the area is safe to walk even after sundown.

It is safe to walk in that area in the evening. It’s not a long walk but it is up and down hills. If you are in good walking condition, you will be fine, just know that you will have some up hill climbs.

It is short distance walking- up and down a hill , you can do it safely day and night- there is a free shuttle, that runs by the city municipality across the street and will take you to the old city. Ask the hotel desk about the shuttle -it a nice free ride
