Did you get my mail to your website regarding room request for an upper floor perhaps the loft room recommended by some for a quieter location ? I may have closed the browser before it sent .
I also asked for options and time for getting from the Airport , We land at 11.30 on 3/6. We will be flying out at about 18.00 on 5/6 what time would we need to leave George Town ?
We have limited time in Penang what would you suggest we do in order to see the most ?
Re: rooms. I would not get too bothered about this, there is a little street noise but it is low level and not intrusive.
Re: transfers: suggest you use Uber, it works brilliantly in Penang, is charged directly to your c.card thereby avoids the need of fiddling around for loose change. Plus the added benefit that your driver will likely be a professional who drives part time, so you will probably have a much more enlightening conversation! Travel time to/from airport approx 45 mins.
Re: things to do: As you know, GT is an architectural heritage site, so it really is a place to enjoy on foot but you can rent bicycles. There is a free a/c shuttle bus to/from the Jetty to Komtar, a bus terminus located in walking distance from CH. This will give you a quick "feel" for the town. Do not worry, the ever helpful girls at CH will take care of you. Wander around stopping for a coffee or some noodles as the mood/time of day takes you. Apart from the suggestions posted by others, another thing is to have a massage, foot or body. There are quite a few establishments but we prefer to support the blind and there is Lucky Massage with both male and female fully qualified masseurs located just two streets away from CH. After you have been loosened up, the inner man may need addressing, so explore the street food - it is just superb, formidable selection, very reasonable and great fun. GT is a delightful place with very friendly locals. Reading this makes me want to return! Hope this helps.
I recently stayed in the Loft room and had no noise issues (except for loud drumming in the afternoon, but it was a Chinese New Year celebration). Nights were quiet and I was able to sleep.
My taxi driver mentioned that getting to the airport in the afternoon (3 or 4) can take a long time. I would check with the reception when you arrive at the hotel. They can book a car for you and will be able to let you know when you should leave factoring in for traffic.
Have a great trip. You'll love Campbell House and Penang!
We had a room on the 3rd floor which was really quiet. (In Asia the ground floor is called the 1st floor). I would allow an hour for traffic. But you can get to the airport in 30 mins.
I would recommend going to the Blue Mansion which the Peranakan Mansion nearby. Do the tour there at 11am. Also go to Studio Howard to see some interesting prints. The street art trail in Penang is worth following. Your hosts at Campbell House will also be full of ideas for sightseeing and food. Hope this helps. Have a great time.
