We plan to arrive Juliaca around 1 pm on a Saturday, and leave by bus Monday morning for Cusco. Where to catch a Collectivo from airport to Puna? What's the cost and how long is the ride?
I'd like to visit the quieter Isla Amantani but don't have time for a homestay. Can I just take the 8 am ferry from Puno and catch the 4 pm boat back? How long is the ferry ride each way or is there a fast boat option?
If that's not feasible, what does a tour of Uros and Taquile via speedboat cost and how long does it last?
If you will be adjusting to altitude at Titicaca from CA elevation, you will need to expect to have more than 24 hours to do so. Most people are looking at 2-3 days before feeling anything like "normal". If you have already adjusted somewhat (like you have just come from Cusco), it will be less. During this time, you can move around but it isn't fun; about 8-12 hours after arriving you will be quite lethargic and maybe headachy, like getting over the flu. Don't try to overbook yourself and drink the tea (gross or not). Once you realize how impacted you are, you will soon after learn how impactful the tea is. (it is NOT delicious).
Most tours that you book with a private guide will be custom length, whatever you might need. There are alternatives to the tour boats because the whole community has boats and anyone would be happy to take a day and share their lifestyle. That said, you should be looking for good English (or not if you speak Spanish or Portuguese). To organize any tour like this, you can email any of the homestay people and they will all "know someone" who can custom whatever you need/desire and include a lunch (with food restrictions if needed, etc).
I don't know, our tour took care of all of our transfers.
Stay at the Lake Titilaka Resort and they will look after it all plus give a much more genuine experience.
Collectivos could be catched just outside the airport. They run frequently and you don't need any reservation in advance. Price for one person was 15 pesos (about 1 euro)

We did the 2 island tour by fast boat a few months ago
It was $65 each and was most of the day including lunch
Definitely one of my highlights of Peru!
