What is negotiated price range of items like blankets or hats? Is it better to "bundle" items to get good price? Do you need to carry your own bags?

Shoppings are fascinating at Otavalo Market! Venders came from all neighbouring areas are quite ready to accept fair offers regardless of any language barrier. They provide bags; better to carry your own, or buy your own folklore design bags that you take home with a unique souvenir. Safe travel & happy shopping!

Price is a difficult thing to nail down. It depends on how hard you want to haggle. My rule of thumb is if I really want it, then buy it because you may never get the chance again. If you want to bargain hard, be prepared to walk away without a purchase and maybe try at another vendor. It is better to bundle items at one vendor because it gives them more incentive to make the sale. Depending on the item, we negotiated 15% - 25% down from asking price. You will need to carry your own bags.

Prices are quite negotiable and you can get great deals. We usually started at 50% and settled in the 30% range. There is no standard as some vendors are more willing to bargain than others. They will supply used bags. We bought blankets, ponchos and little alpaca critters for the grandkids.
