Sorry to bring this up but what is the security situation? is this still a concern following on from the 2014 events (at Mabul Island)?
Are any security measures put in place or do you feel that this is a remote issues and no longer worth worrying about?
Hi Steve. We have just been to seaventures in September, and we were worried about safety beforehand, too. When we finally got there, we felt totally safe and were not worried at all.
There are several security measures: Given your are on an oil rig, there are only few ways onto it (e.g. one elevator and a back door), which are secured. There is a curfew on from 7pm to 5am, so no ships are allowed on the ocean, and there are patrols to control this. During curfew time, there were ESSCOM commanders stationed on the rig to protect the rig and the area. Further, there were navy and police ships around regularly. The crew is aware of concerns about safety, and they take it seriously.
