My husband and I are considering making reservations at the St. James in late "hot" June for several days. I am EXTREMELY particular about my accommodations ---comfort, decor, amenities. Is the hotel equipped with Ac/, working A/C? Do the rooms smell or feel humid, damp or moldy? What are the absolute best rooms/suites with a view and the feel of luxury? After reading reviews, I'm becoming a bit antsy. PeniLane
I am fairly particular but the room we ended up with was more than adequate,A/C working and not musty. We had suite on 1st floor, corner suite nearest the Pettus bridge overlooking the river with a balcony, the view from which was amazing.Only minor point was some of the curtains do not hang properly, otherwise it was the most interesting and authentic hotel we stayed in over a 7 state road trip.
Hi, if luxury rather than a sense of history is important to you, then the St James Hotel is probably not the best accommodation for you.
Yes, the air conditioning does work and the room did not smell moldy or musty. The old historic section faces the street where I stayed on the 2nd floor. There was a veranda or balcony facing street side with an excellent view of the city and from one end the river and bridge which was easily accessible from the hallway. The newer section faces the river but I cannot vouch for the rooms there. Even though it was not a luxury hotel it was clean and had nice decor and very friendly staff.
