It really depends on the weather to be honest and how long you are traveling for. Since it was dry when I️ went I️ wore my strap on sandals and they were the only shoes I️ brought. I️ have friends who went a few weeks before me when It was raining a lot and they rented Gumboots for the trek. I️ also have a few friends who just did SaPa trekking and they wore there own trainers. They chucked them at the end of the trek because they were so muddy. Know that there are so so many stores that sell trekking gear and shoes at a reasonable rate there though. So if your on a long trip don’t bother carrying around heavy shoes when you can get them there if need be. I’m glad I️ didn’t bring my hiking boots because they weren’t necessary the week I️ went.
