Hampton Inn and Suites San Clemente Questions & Answers

South Bend, Indiana

Would this hotel be recommended for a first time visit to California from the Midwest? I am considering staying here for the week of my birthday in mid-March with some friends but want to make sure we can get the full Southern California experience without necessarily having to rent a car. Is this hotel within walking distance (a mile or so) to the beach? Are there nearby stores, restaurants, bars, or any other attractions that we can easily access from this hotel? Any advice or information would be very helpful! Thank you.

Dear Jacqui D,

Happy New Year! Thank you for considering to stay in San Clemente for your birthday getaway in March. Our hotel is located one third of a mile from the beach, however it is separated by I-5. You can access the beach by car which will take you approximately 5 minutes and 15-20 minutes on foot. We have two reataurants within two and a half blocks from the hotel. Molly Bloom's Irish pub and restaurant and OC Tavern. Delmar is downtown San Clemente with small shops and restaurants which is two miles from our hotel. Please contact me directly by calling the hotel for any further questions or assistance.

Hello! yes this is a nice hotel for a first time visit to California... it IS in walking distance to the beach, you may ask the desk clerk and they will inform you how to get there; my son and grandsons took the hike, it was a bit of a walk but not bad. San Clemente is a halfway point between San Diego and all the family attractions there and Anaheim with the attractions there. Anywhere you stay in southern California I would recommend a car, the distance is just too great sometimes. There are some restaurants and shops north of the hotel, but they are also a distance away.. We stayed in the back of the hotel and did not even hear the freeway noise. San Clemente was a good place to stay, I would most likely stay there again if we wanted a 'midpoint' place to enjoy family activities and attractions. Have fun... I was very happy with this hotel and location

You would need to rent car or take taxi to beach. It is very close but on other side of freeway. There are many good restaurants close. You also could take Amtrak from San Clemente pier area to nearby cities, making San Diego, or Newport areas easily available. San Clemente is a great beach to enjoy.

I have to agree with others. Not recommended to take in the whole SoCal experience. I have to say San Diego is much easier to get around with tons of Roptions for transport without a rental car. If that's too far south, AZRanger has a good reco with Dana Point. Encinitas is really kick back and a lazy beach and surf town with beers and tacos too.

No, this is not a good hotel for that. It is adjacent to the freeway and not walking distance to the beach or any other attraction. Something in Dana Point would be better

I would recommend a rental car to go see LA and San Diego. The beach would be a tough walk because you need to find a pass-through under I-5. There was a bar fairly close but that was about it for stores.
