Roger B: Your remark about the size of the roll ( hotdog size ) your scallop roll came on makes me think you don't often eat lobster, crab, scallop or fried clam rolls in Maine. An authentic Maine lobster roll is always served on a grilled top cut hotdog roll. So are all the others. So I'm curious, why did you say the roll wasn't the one lobster rolls usually come in?
Well, you are right. I have not eaten these before but wanted to try one during my trip to Maine. The roll I got was a regular, cheap hot dog bun, nothing special and no grilled top cut roll. Based on this experience, I don't plan to eat them again either - definitely not worth the $13-15 you usually pay for them, in my opinion...
we do eat out very much, Hellans always had large servings. I did notice last month they are making their serving much smaller while charging alittle more. That's not my fault if they are starting to scimp on sandwiches. They also know we were regulars, dont know if that helped as well. sorry it wasnt up to your standards.
I made no comment on the size of rolls.
Dan P.: During our visit to your beautiful state, we had the opportunity to dine in a variety of establishments in the communities of Eastport, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Castine, as well as Ellsworth. Comparing the size of the roll served at Helen's against those served in the other restaurants we dined at, Helen's was smaller. While I don't claim to be an expert on the size of rolls served in restaurants throughout Maine, I did share the dining experience we had at Helen's in November, 2015.
