How far are you from the restaurants?
Is fishing fly only or catch/Release?
Hi there! Elk Horn Café is a quarter of a mile south, High Country and Fina's are about 3/4 miles north, there are several restaurants past there including two right across from the train depot.
Fishing regulations vary, depending on what part of the Rio Chama you are fishing. There is Quality Water North of town; that is barbless hooks, and size limits. Right behind the motel is open fishing-spinners, bait or fly. Please refer to the NM Game and Fish website, or you can call the motel and we will try and get specific information for you for where you want to fish!
There is one to two restaurants to the south and a few more to the north. I would say too far to walk, but well within a mile and a half. Read my reviews about the town.
The High Country has outstanding Trout with Pine Nuts; Fosters has a decent steak and very good breakfast.
There is also a well-stocked grocery and hardware store about 1/4 mile to the north.
I'm sorry I don't know about the fishing regulations. The site for New Mexico Game and Fish gives specific regs - use the link o the left side of the page for Specific Waters (the one near the top doesn't work). Scroll to Rio Chama.
Good luck - and ride the train!
Don't know about fishing, but you definitely can't walk to the restaurants unless you're a hiker & have a goodly amount of time... and there are only 2 of them in the town. I would recommend calling the hotel as we found them to be super friendly & helpful!
