Too far to walk. Not a far ride though
I would say the roads are not geared for pedestrians. And Olana is situated on a hill overlooking the Hudson, and the road is quite curvy and winding to get to the top.
You can certainly see it - you should call the site to see if there is a trail
I would agree with the other response's, Not a pleasant road to walk on. You can get a taxi from Hudson.
Cannot give an acurate answer...Probably Not
You asked if walking to Olana from Hudson is possible. It may be for those who are real hikers, but not for the casual walker. I'm not sure of the distance from Hudson, but once on the entrance to Olana, there is quite a hike up a hill. So, my answer is no.
hit a home run with his response
CAN walk anywhere except unfrozen water.....BUT
it'd take a huge toll on you and your day,so
don't walk TO Olana... walk the grounds though
I would not attempt it. I would estimate it as 2.5 miles from Warren Street which is the main drag in Hudson. Also it is on a busy road with no sidewalks.
I concur with the not very walkable answers. If you stay at Mount Merino Manor (a recommended b&b), it's about a mile walk, all uphill, but guests in shape have done it.
I will disagree with the other answers. It could be walked, but it would take well over an hour and the only route I know is along a two-lane highway prior to a steep uphill walk to Olana. Walkable, but not recommended.
No, unfortunately. But a taxi from Hudson city proper can take you there.
No. It is a big drive to the top of a mountain. But worth the drive.
No and I couldn't improve upon Duncan TCH's response.
No. While Olana is only about 4 miles from downtown Hudson, it is not walkable. However, if you come to Hudson by train, one of the local cab companies can take you to Olana. Generally, the fare is about $5 and it's only 5 minutes away. They'll also come and pick you back up.
