San Francisco Bay Questions & Answers

I wanting some advise on weather its better to stay down town San Fran or to stay in Oakland area for a family vacation with young children. Travelling from overseas, so don't know the area that well.

Only staying for 3 nights so want to be able to make the most of it.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you everyone who has given me there feedback, really appreciate it.

Sounds like a done deal to stay in the San Fran area instead.

Cheers.

I would vote for the East Bay as a base with sojourns into the City, but I would stay more on the Berkeley/Kensington/Solano side of things rather than Oakland. Weatherwise, fall and spring are the sunnier times for SF weather.

Yes stay in SF use uber for transport or cablecars when going to fisherman wharf. I stayed at the Moser hotel it was was excellent and a reasonable price and its a not for profit with money going to support emerging nation farming techniques. Check out the Exploratiorium the kids will love it, so will you.

Hello,

In my opinion San Francisco has more to offer. The children will like Fishermans wharf (Pier 39) there is an aquarium that's cool. Riding the Cable car is also fun. China town and Ghirardelli square as well as Alcatraz. Walking the Golden Gate is another fun thing to do with children. Make sure you and the family wear very comfortable shoes.

Hope this helps!

Stay in downtown San Fran. There is a nice pier area, beach area, lots for kids. You want to be right in the main area, especially if you're only there for 3 days.

My wife and I are finishing up a week stay in Fisherman's Wharf. We used the street cars which pick up and drop off nearby to get around to almost all of the city attractions. We purchased the city pass which covers the Muni costs as well as gives you access to other fun activities such as Exploratorium & Aquarium of the Bay. We would recommend the Holiday Inn Express which had a nice hot breakfast every morning and was certainly one of the best priced hotels in the area. Would highly recommend staying in San Francisco!

The Fisherman's Wharf area is great for families, with lots to do and see. I'd recommend staying in San Francisco, as much can be done on foot or by trolley. You'll save a lot of time and money if you park at your hotel and walk from there, as parking is sparse and spendy. Have a great trip!

I would stay downtown San Francisco. alot to see & do in 3 days. Union Square would be a good area to stay. the kids would love the trolley & you can walk to many things. Chinatown is great & only a few blocks from Union Square area. Book an Alcatraz tour. enjoy!!!

We would definitely recommend staying in SF. Our Californian friends indicated that Oakland had suffered during recent times and was rather run down. SF is vibrant, exciting and a joy to be visiting. Make the most of it.
