Deep Forest Cabins at Mt. Rainier Questions & Answers

We're planning on staying up there in December in the Cedar Geove cabin. Will it be too cold for that? And will the roads be too icy to travel safely?

Hi, Cedar Grove is toasty warm. It has heated floor in bathroom, electric heat in bathroom, electric heat in main rooms, and gas fireplace. Plus it is over insulated!

As far as roads in December, this is unknown. Sometimes we get no snow at all and sometimes we get snow for months. The main road is always plowed but could be icy. Our driveway we keep plowed if snow. However, if there is snow it is best to have 4WD or chains. Chains can be rented in Ashford. You must carry chains or have 4WD to go inside Mt Rainier National Park in the winter.

Thank you,

Janet

The cabin has baseboard heat so it should be warm enough. Also Cedar Grove is the 1st cabin on the driveway leading up to the other two so access to it should be easier. I would ask Janet about icy road conditions since she lives there year around and would certainly know. It is truly a lovely place and we are considering a return visit next summer.
