Melbourne, Australia

Hi,

Im looking at accommodation near the pagoda and will probably visit. Curious how long does the walk to the top takes? And is it easy/safe to do solo?

Hi, you can stay at Unawatuna beach and take a rick to the Peace Pagoda..no major trekking to be done. Preferrably with company and not alone..

Hello,

You can find accomadiaton on Unawatuna beach, that is 5 kilometers about. And you can take a took took. That costs 200 Sri Lankan rupiah. That is very safe, don't worry.

Best regards, Laszlo

Thanks for the replies! They were helpful to get an idea of what to expect. I've been to the Japanese Peace Pagoda located in Pokahara, Nepal. We hiked up to it, took around an hour each way and was very steep! I'm not much for walking/hiking so didn't want to do that again :)

Hi! Our driver drove us up to where the pagoda was; I think it would take a while to walk up to the site as the road is quite twisty & steep.

Probably safe but I still wouldn't risk walking.

If you reach is from Galle, there a paved road to it. It a side road from the main road where also the busses between Galla and Matara drive. The road is steep but doable for everyone. Also tuktuk drivers can take you there. Don't fall for the arguments of the drivers to pay the 500+ prices they ask. We slept very nearby in the Aqua Cantaloupe hotel. It was a 5 minute walk and very easy and safe. There are also some B&B/guesthouses down the road/hill. There should also be a jungle path between the Japanese peace pagoda and the village of Unawatuna. We didn't took that one because it was dark and we didn't know what to expect. So I still don't know.
