Shopping Guide for Krabi Town

While many tourists use Krabi Town merely as a transport hub, the town itself definitely is worth a break from the beach for a day or two. Obviously, the shopping here can't compete with what's on offer in Bangkok, but there are still some interesting finds to be discovered.

Chris S's City Tips

  • You can find quite a lot of the common chain stores here, but the real deals are found in the mom and pop shops.
  • It's okay to negotiate prices with the shop owners, especially at the markets.
  • To get from one side of town to another, use one of the songthaews (trucks with covered seating in the back). Simply flag one down and ring the bell whenever you want to get off (it may also be helpful to tell the driver in advance where you want to go).

A visit to Krabi isn't complete without checking out its famous Night Market. With stalls selling a mix of touristy trinkets, local crafts, and everyday items, you're sure to find something interesting to bring home!

    Tips
    • Don't come here just for the shopping, but for the food too! You'll find some incredibly delicious Thai street food here.
    • Just like elsewhere in Thailand, souvenir shopping in Krabi Town is a game of bargaining for a good price.
    • The place is popular among both tourists and locals. Come early if you want to grab a seat for dinner!

If you find yourself in need of some reasonably priced western-brand goods while in Krabi, the Outlet Village is the place to go. Sure, it's not the most exciting of areas, nor is it the best outlet out there, but it's definitely not bad for Thai standards. Expect last season's items at up to 70% off.

    Chris S Says:

Ao Nang's walking street may pale in comparison to the markets streets in other Thai cities, but it's really fun at night during the high season. At this time, Ao Nang's main street transforms into a lively walking street, with live music, good food, and open bars. I like to browse around the various souvenir shops, and then settle down with a beer to people-watch from one of the terraces along the road.

    Chris S Says:

Thailand is known for its affordable tailoring services, and Krabi is no exception. There are several tailor shops around town, but Andy the Tailor is by far the most popular. Suits, shirts, dresses... There's almost nothing that always-smiling Andy and his talented team can't make!

There's no need to venture all the way to Krabi downtown to get your souvenir shopping on. In sleepy Klong Muang, you'll find this little community mall that is perfect for a stroll! The wide range of antique shops, boutiques, and handicraft stores will make it a challenge to leave empty-handed.

The downside of shopping for souvenirs in Thailand is that most shops and markets sell exactly the same gifts. Pakarang Art & Crafts Shop, however, feels like a treasure trove of unique items. Browse through a big collection of woodwork trinkets, antique items, and silly gifts — you're sure to find something memorable!

Maharaj Market is the beating heart of Krabi Town — the place where locals buy and sell their freshly caught fish and produce. The market opens in the wee hours of morning, and most stalls close down around noon. This unique view of the daily local life is well worth getting out of bed for.
