Krabi is a wonderfully sleepy little riverside town. It is the perfect spot for a couple to enjoy each other's company without having to deal with a crazy nightlife scene. The scenery is breathtaking, the food is delicious, and there is something for everyone. The riverwalk is a particularly great place for a romantic stroll or run; it's a few miles long and offers gorgeous views of the sunrise and sunset.

Megan S's City Tips

  • Krabi isn't a late night party place, so save the wild dancer in you for the islands or Ao Nang.
  • Most restaurants include a VAT % which is supposed to be a tip. It is customary to leave a few extra Thai baht as well however to ensure that it goes directly to the waiting staff.
  • Krabi is easily accessible by bus or plane. Both the bus station and airport have shuttles that take you directly to Chao Fah Road.

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Thailand. The food is unbelievable, the owners are the sweetest Thais ever, and the restaurant itself is a cozy little spot. May is a bubbly, smiley, sweet woman who will probably send you out something in a heart shape if she finds out you're newlyweds. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and May makes tons of bread from scratch daily as well as curries which are off the hook! If you're craving something that isn't featured on the menu, don't hesitate to ask, she will probably whip it up special for you!

A great attraction for an active couple. It takes a climb up 1200 steps to reach the top of this temple, but the views from the top are sure to deliver! It is easily accessible via songthaews (shared taxi) or the covered, colored pick up trucks.

This is a very romantic spot for a couple to chill out and relax, and as it is in close proximity to the Tiger Cave Temple, they're good places to combine. These are salty hot springs that are great for the body and offer some fantastic views.

This is a great town to get massages, shop, and enjoy some delicious seafood. There are an indefinite number of shops along the boardwalk offering elephant pants, t-shirts, and other tourist garb. There are also tons of seafood, Indian, pizza and Thai restaurants in the area, meaning you can get your fix of whatever cuisine you happen to be craving. Finally, you can end your exploration with a couples massage at sunset on the beach! Walk along the boardwalk to the left when facing the ocean, and keep going past the Last Chance Bar until you find the 20-something massage huts that are labelled by number. Most have the same prices but will offer discounts for two or more people or services. My personal favorite is the 5/6 hut! The ladies there are great!

    Tips
    • Haggling is expected for merchandise, but please be respectful. This is how these people make a living, and while a few extra baht may not be much for you, for them it makes a huge difference.
    • Avoid restaurants with salesmen out front trying to lure you in. The food typically isn't that great if they need someone out front selling it.
    • Ao Nang is a half hour songthaew or taxi ride from Krabi Town. Check with your guesthouse or hotel staff for which pick up trucks go to Ao Nang.
    • Make sure to head back to Krabi town before 9pm if you want a cheaper ride option. After that you may be stuck taking a taxi which will cost more.

There are actually three markets in Krabi Town, two of which are night markets that occur every day. One of these is located in the middle of town, and offers mostly fruits, veggies, and curries for take away, while the night market listed here is by Chao Fah Pier, and features many stands with little plastic tables and chairs in front, offering menus which feature a wider variety of Thai dishes and beer. The final market of the three, takes place from Friday to Sunday only, and has souvenir and handicraft stalls, as well as food options and a variety show. You could spend hours watching the performers and munching on the delicious treats!

    Tips

    • At the Chao Fah Pier Market there is a woman all the way to the right who sells the most delicious BBQ grilled chicken and rice. Plus, look out for the woman all the way to the left that sells take away desserts. Her mango sticky rice is the best value!

One of the best beaches in Thailand, this stretch of secluded sand is great for couples to experience together. It is only accessible via boat even though it is on the mainland - as limestone cliffs make it impossible to reach via land - and the trip by long tail boat is all part of the appeal. The waters are clear and when you get here, people typically leave you alone.

    Tips
    • Boats leave from Chao Fah Pier, Krabi Pier and Ao Nang Pier. In Krabi town just find a man shouting "Rah-lay."
    • Boats typically don't leave until they are full, but you can always pay more for them to go right away.
    • If the weather starts to turn, head back to the boat. The trip across the waters can get pretty scary!
    • Make sure to ask when the last boat will be going back and where you will get dropped off. You don't want to get stranded!

This is a hidden gem of a beach! Everyone knows of Railay, but not many venture all the way to Phra Nang, accessible only via the walking path from Railay (which you can only access by long tail boat.) The water is crystal clear and the beach is a little more deserted than Railay so it makes for a great romantic getaway.

A great day trip option. The hong islands are far less visited than Koh Phi Phi, Koh Rok or Koh Lanta. Hong means 'room' in Thai, and you will understand why they were named the 'room' islands as soon as you see them! Each island has little coves or rooms of calm, clear water that are almost fully closed in by limestone cliffs.
