Points of Interest

1. Parking

Park at the Spicer Road Sno-Park lot. You will need a Sno-Park permit purchased ahead of time (many stores carry them). Sno-Park permits are $5 per day, or $25 per year (for all Sno-Park lots).

2. North Fork Stanislaus River

The major ups and downs on this trip are due to the canyon of the North Fork of the Stanislaus River.

3. Skiing downhill

Descending into the river canyon, bring a good snowplow!

4. Junction to Sapps Hill

At the corner, an ungroomed trail goes northeast over Sapps Hill.

5. Descending past Sapps Hill

After ascending out of the river canyon, a crest is finally reached with a short descent toward the reservoirs.

6. Junction of Spcier and Utica/Union

Turn right to descend to Spicer Reservoir, or left to go to Union and Utica Reservoirs

7. Junction for Union and Utica

Turn right for Union Reservoir, left for the boat ramp at Utica Reservoir

8. Turn right down ungroomed trail

The shortest way to Union Reservoir is to turn OFF the groomed trail 1/4 mile past the Union/Utica split down a road that has no tracks (1/2 mile). This will put you down buy the the dam.

9. Union Reservoir

The end of the trip! Enjoy a nice lunch looking north toward Bear Valley and Mt. Reba. Elephant rock can been seen to the northeast.

The last half mile is an ungroomed road. Turn right at the obvious snowed-in road.

10. Pretty Cliffs and the Moon

The moon rose over cliffs. Don't forget to enjoy the views.
