JoAnna H's City Tips

  • If there is a specific place you'd like to eat, make a reservation, especially on weekends, during holidays or when there are major conventions are in town.
  • If you have food allergies or preferences, talk to the wait staff about your needs. Especially at high-end restaurants, these can usually be accommodated.
  • While the concierge at many resorts are knowledgeable about dining in Las Vegas, they are likely to recommend restaurants within their resort properties.
  • If you happen to visit a restaurant during one of Las Vegas' Restaurant Weeks, a charitable event that happens a few times a year, ask to see the special prix fixe event menu.
  • Most of Las Vegas' best known restaurants are located on the Las Vegas Strip and in downtown, all of which can be reached easily by taxi or public bus.
  • If you have tickets to attend a show or other evening event, let your wait staff know so they can try to accommodate your needs.
  • You need to dress appropriately to dine in Las Vegas' finest restaurants. Sandals, tank tops and shorts should be avoided.

This Palms Place restaurant is equal parts whimsical, creative and fresh. This is one of celebrity chef Kerry Simon's restaurants in town, and his commitment to seasonal and high-quality but fun food makes this a great place for a classy dinner or laid back Sunday brunch.

There are dozens of pizza places in Las Vegas, but none are quite like Five50 in ARIA. The artisan pizza spread, small plates perfect for sharing and expertly appointed drink selections make this a great place to grab a slice of pie if visitors are looking for something just a step above the average pizza joint.

    Tips
    • ARIA historically has one of the best beverage programs on the Strip. Ask about the current specialty craft beers being served at the restaurant or on the property.
    • Even after the restaurant closes, you can still grab a slice of pizza to go from the counter until the early hours of the morning.
    • ARIA's sports book is right around the corner. You can either take a slice of pizza to go, or you can watch sports from the bar counter at Five50.

This diner is a Las Vegas staple, and one of the last free-standing restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip. Stepping into this laid back restaurant is like stepping back in time with waitresses in classic server wear, massive milkshakes and neon lights strung throughout the dining room.

    Tips
    • Most desserts are big enough to share between at least two people.
    • Because of it's location on the north end of the Strip, it may be necessary to take a taxi to reach Peppermill, depending on where you're staying.
    • Peppermill is open 24 hours a day.
    • If you're 21, slip into the adjoining lounge, where you and your friends can nestle around an intimate center fire pit. Look for celebrities who sometimes stop in here.
    • A roaming photographer will stop to take a picture of the people seated at your table. You don't have to buy the final prints, but the sample shot is free.

This French bistro at The Cosmopolitan is trendy and tasty with a killer view of the Strip – if you can snag the right seat. The appetizers are a great place to whet your appetite for French fare (the escargot pie is particularly tasty), and though there are a variety of entrees to choose from, the Comme Ca burger and steak frites are favorites for a good reason.

Who would have thought that one of the best places to get food in Las Vegas would be off the Strip in the city's Chinatown? Lotus of Siam serves up Asian cuisine that has been passed down through generations and is today considered one of the best places to get Thai food in all of North America. Those who love heat with their food will love the sliding spice scale in order to perfect the taste of their meal.

Though Las Vegas has moved away from the buffet craze in recent years, occasionally there is one worth noting. Such is the case with the updated Bacchanal Buffet, located at Caesars Palace. On any given day, guests can find 500 different dishes available from the 800 recipes used at the restaurant. The options are practically endless with nine different show kitchens featuring cuisine ranging from Mexican and Italian to Japanese and a wide spread of fresh seafood. The dessert offerings alone make this a noteworthy buffet.
