Katie C's City Tips

  • While the water is great for swimming and sports (jet skis, anyone?), jellyfish can quickly put a damper on your water fun. Keep an eye out for these floating stingers, and try to avoid the tentacles.
  • Tipping 18-20% is customary in Myrtle Beach restaurants.
  • This is a resort town, so the busy season means more people. If you're looking for a quieter experience, consider visiting in low season (December through March).
  • If you're dining with a large group (usually six people or more), restaurants automatically add gratuity. Check the bill to make sure; and if the service was exceptional, you may consider tacking on a small amount more — servers live off their tips.

Starting near the North Carolina Border at Little River, the Grand Strand stretches 60 miles to the south, with Myrtle Beach as its bustling hub. On these white sands you'll find plenty of fun in the sun, from sailing and surfing to sunbathing and shell hunting. You can also fish, shop, or simply stroll along the Strand.

    Katie C Says:

Myrtle Beach is famous for its golf courses — both PGA-style greens and goofy mini-golf versions! There are several mini-golf options along the Grand Strand, each with its own unique theme. Mt. Atlanticus is one of the wackiest of them all, complete with its own mythology (about having broken off from the lost city of Atlantis and floated up to Myrtle Beach...) Its two courses (the Conch and the Mintoaur) offer plenty of challenges, and along the way you'll spot minotaurs, Elvis, sea monsters, and more.
