We stayed here for 3 nights in a deluxe chalet which happens to be a 10-minute walk to the restaurant and the reception. It was not a nice walk to and from and it is not well-lit and it has uneven grounds to walk on. We always needed to bring a flashlight when we went out at night. Our room was great but we couldn't adjust the thermostat as they misplaced the remote control and they would not do anything about it. We were just told not to adjust the temperature which happened to be too high for steaming Borneo. So it was pretty hot in our room. We could only turn it on and off. The room was equipped with plain flat sheet and thick duvet. The flat sheet was too flimsy to cover us when the fan and the weak aircon were on. It is impossible to use the duvet as it would get really warm. The food was very average. We walked to a nearby resort to get lunch and dinner which had much better quality of food and service.
For the good comments, our bathroom was very unique and pretty cool actually. We also had an outside rainshower which we used a few times after coming home hot and sweaty. That was a nice touch. We also had good experience in the restaurant when Niki's working. It was like night and day of difference on the service when she's working or not. They let us keep our drinks in their fridge, so that was appreciated.
We're normally easy going clients when we travel hence most of my reviews are excellent's and very good's on hotels and restaurants we tried but I just cannot pass up on this one.

We stayed here for 1 night when we flew from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan to visit the Orangutan Sanctuary. We arrived roughly about 8am, and were able to check in, although our room wasn't ready.
We paid and had breakfast before heading out for the day.
When we arrived back about 3pm, we were able to go to our room. The room were lovely, comfy beds. Bathroom a little dated but we didn't mind that.
The grounds are beautiful and the restaurant is also fantastic. These are the reasons we would recommend anyone to stay at Sepliok Forest Edge Resort.
We also had our Evening Meal here, whilst it wasn't cheap, the food was amazing. Best meal in Borneo!

We stayed in a deluxe family lodge for 3 nights at beautiful Sepilok Forest Edge. We loved our stay here - the grounds are beautiful, many birds in the trees, we even found an orangutan early one morning in the trees outside our lodge. The room was very comfortable and included 2 bathrooms, one of which was outside with a hot shower. Such a special experience!
Although the swimming pool was shallow, it was perfect for cooling off in after a hot day. Staff were so friendly and helpful, particularly in the reception area. Wifi was accessible but only in the restaurant area. Breakfast was included with our room and it was good, with fruit and pastries and the option to order an egg (though not clearly advertised). We found the food at lunch/ dinner to be quite expensive and not as good as some of the other options in Sepilok we found ( Sepilok Nature resort, Jungle lodge, Rainforest Discovery centre).
It was just a 10 minute walk to the orangutan rehabilitation centre and about 25 minutes to the Rainforest Discovery centre. Grabs can be booked during the day, but not as available at night. We ended up walking back to the hotel after our night walk at the Rainforest Discovery centre and getting soaked in a tropical storm!
Overall we would highly recommend this lodge and would happily return.

The SFER is a very good resort. We stayed in a dorm. room with shared facilities and our room was immaculately clean. The bathroom and toilets were also extremely clean.
It is located right near the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Rainforest Discovery Centre. We found the orangutan experience at the Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre (32 km from Kuching) to be much better and a lot cheaper too. The Rainforest Discovery Centre was fantastic, an absolute must do.
The owner of SFER, Annie Chung, is very courteous and helpful. She'll spend time with you to make sure everything is OK. She can also arrange a visit to Kinabatangan Jungle Camp, run by her husband Robert. We spent 2 nights there and had a very good time. The prices are reasonable, the accommodation clean, and you should see amazing wildlife (we did).

Got a taxi from Taxi Coupons desk at the airport, 40 RM, about a 1/2 hour trip. Reception is out by the road so easy to find. Checked in, paid the 10 RM /day tourist tax in cash, then to the restaurant for our free cold drink, very nice while they took our bags to the room. We had a Deluxe Chalet Double Bed (Kinabatangan) which was close to reception & the front of the resort, some of the other chalets are very far away.
The big room was very clean, king bed (well used), TV (some English channels), no WiFi in room only at resto or reception, AC, fan, kettle, coffee/tea, 2 bottles of water, no fridge, deck with 2 chairs & table with view of nature & nice partial shade, great spot to watch squirrels, birds & listen to the birds in the area. The bathroom had a jetted tub (2 steps up to get in) with a shower head about 1.5 m off the tub floor, concrete trough water dispensers & bare concrete walls at bottom & bamboo at top wall finish, a bit odd. It is a 15-20 minute walk to the Orangutan & Sun bear rehabilitation centres & about a 30-40 minute walk to the Rainforest Discovery Centre. Breakfast buffet had a couple local starch items, fruit, beans, tomatoes, jam, toast & sausage (you grill both yourself over hot briquettes), coffee/tea/juice, cereals, eggs made to order. We ate there at night & the food was tasty & very nice. There is a very small pool, 0.8 m deep & is very warm so made for kids or sitting in to cool down, no laps. Some table, chairs & 2 umbrellas in pool area. The resto is quite large, covered in but also some area to sit out on an uncovered deck area. Once out here, there are no convenience stores or ATMs so if you need supplies/snacks or cash, stop in Sandakan before coming out, this is out in the countryside with not much close.
Had a couple of good taxi drivers Rabu (taxi driver-Cell 017220107) & Emrin, (tour guide & taxi driver – Cell-011-12059500). Would recommend both drivers, Rabu retired from a Forestry Government position & Emrin is a young father with child #3 on the way. Emrin has broad command of English if that is what you are looking for & Rabu's English may not be as good but no problem communicating our wishes.
We were here 4 nights & that was enough, we took 1 day for the sun bears & orangutans going back & forth, 1 day for the rainforest discovery centre (RDC) & part day to get a taxi to see the proboscis monkeys (2 morning feedings). Three nights could have worked, seeing proboscis monkeys in the morning & RDC in the afternoon/evening. The location is nice in the countryside, many different birds on site, the staff were excellent, the food at the resto was good & could stay here again but would probably try another for a change.
