Me and hubby travel to Newcastle a few times a year to visit family and friends and have tried a few hotels. This is by far one of the best mid-range hotels we've stayed in. It is approx 10 min walk to the station and close to shops/mall. Opposite St James Park if that's your thing. One thing we really liked was the complimentary tea/coffee/hot chocolate machine in the lobby. There is also an ice machine on the top floor, not sure if there is one on every floor but I found it when I was exploring. There is also a small fitness center with a few cardio machines, weights and resistance machines. Rooms were very nice, exactly as in the pictures. Wasn't too happy with the first room (110) as the view was crap, to put it bluntly. Over looked this but we had a weird light that made a droning sound when it was on and we also got woken in the night by loud banging. Hubby complained in the morning and they told us to come back at 12pm to get a new room. We got upgraded to a suite, which was very nice on the hotels part as they didn't have to do that. We had a great night sleep and left content.

We do have ice machines on floors 1 and 10 for our guests to use at their convenience; or, if they prefer, ice can be brought to their room on request with a simple phone call to our 24-hour Guest Service and Room Service teams. 6 of us(3 couples)stayed for 3 nights and had a very god stay. Staff friendly, rooms clean and well equipped. Slightly small rooms but we have stayed here many times so know the score. Great location next to st James park as we were going to a match. Also within walking distance of most things in the city. Shark bar is nice a lively for a few drinks but I found that staff we very slow to clear tables, pick up stuff that fell on the floor etc (not our stuff). Better this time, upgraded room was better. Nice bathrooms with decent quality toiletries
Receptionists are efficient and helpful - at a level that you don’t normally get.
So what would I improve?
Better gym and breakfast- I am still struggling to get my head round eating it in “ the shark bar” which is attached. The door staff are surly and why you would want to have this demeaning to women place next to your hotel is beyond me.

Rooms are great, new furnishings, always clean and great service!
The lady who runs breakfast is so friendly and always greets me when I am back!
The hotel has great WiFi, room service no charge to room.
If eating in the bar, book to avoid disappointment.
Tea and coffee for free at reception.
The hotel has a gym on the 10th floor.

Rooms were spacious and clean and front desk staff were friendly and efficient. The only disappointment was the workout room which was below standard to the rest of the hotel. Situated on the 11th floor there were 2 treadmills which were not switched on. One did not work and the other I eventually got to work. The TVs has no remote controls so could not be used as they were not linked to the treadmills
The weights were old and were all over the floor.
A makeover in the gym and some daily maintenance would help
Overall good value for money in a good location
