I stayed at MIIJE Fourcy for 1 night at the end of a weeklong trip to Paris and paid $47 USD. This was the cheapest price I could find for a hostel in a semi-central area of the city, but it still felt too expensive for what I got for the following reasons. It's important to note that I really debated between 3 and 4 stars for this property, but I ultimately gave it 4 because it was very clean, despite its lack of hand soap (I used tons of personally-purchased Purell instead!) and other basics.

The booking process, first and foremost, was a headache. I initially booked through Expedia, which identified the hostel as "MIJE Fauconnier - Fourcy - Maubuisson - Hostel in Paris" and didn't give an address. BEWARE: This means that you could end up either at MIJE Fauconnier (11 rue du Fauconnier) or MIJE Fourcy (6 rue de Fourcy), which are about a block and a half apart from each other, or MIJE Maubuisson (12 rue des Barres), which is a few blocks west of both. However, Maubuisson did not have great reviews, and Fourcy seems to have better overall reviews than Fauconnier. When I booked through Expedia, I didn't realize that I could end up at any of the three, and when I contacted the hostel and was told that I was assigned to Fauconnier, I immediately cancelled my reservation and re-booked on Hostelworld. I thought Hostelworld was letting me book Fourcy specifically since it lists its address as 6 rue Fourcy (though identified it vaguely as "MIJE Marais"), but I ran into the same problem with my booking there - I was again told I would be staying at Fauconnier. When I contacted MIJE Fourcy (through Hostelworld) and requested to stay at that hostel, because that's the specific hostel I booked at, they thankfully confirmed my request. So, just be aware of which hostel you're booking, and if you run into problems, it seems like hostel management will take care of it for you.

My second problem with booking arose with regards to the price. There seems to be little communication between Hostelworld and MIJE hostels, since Hostelworld only initially charged me $7 upfront when I made my online booking, and then said I would have to pay the $40 remainder when I checked in at MIJE Fourcy. However, at check-in, MIJE Fourcy charged me the full $47. I only realized I had been charged an extra $7 when I looked at my credit card statement after the trip was over. Luckily, I was able to get the $7 charge removed by filing a dispute with my credit card company and explaining what had happened, so I didn't have to communicate with MIJE back in France or anything, but it was a headache, to say the least, and someone less frugal than me may not feel it's worth it to go through that process. It's annoying that MIJE double-charged me in the first place - it seems like this is something that they should be used to, since countless people book on Hostelworld. So, again, be vigilant with your booking!!

MIJE Fourcy is located in the Marais area, an awesome location for wandering the streets, eating at little bistros, and stopping into quirky shops. This was one of my favorite areas of Paris! The hostel is also located about a three-minute walk from a Metro stop, which is SUPER convenient, and close to the water, so you can easily cross over into the 5th and 6th Arronds., Left Bank, etc. The hostel building itself was quite lovely, made of attractive stone and centered around a beautiful courtyard. It was also very well-maintained - the rooms were extremely clean and spacious. I stayed in what was advertised as a 10-person female-only dorm room, but the dorm, on the second floor, was actually split up into a series of piecemeal rooms. One room was smaller and had just four beds; the other, which I stayed in, had six. There were two individual toilet stalls (just toilet, no sink), and two separate shower/sink areas. It was a bit of a strange layout, and there were steps involved getting from the sleeping area to the sink to the toilet, which I did not appreciate late at night when it was dark and I was groggy. The sleeping room I stayed in didn't have bunks, but some of the beds were oddly spaced very close together. (Luckily, I snagged a bed that was by itself and next to the window.) Overall, I'd say I was quite happy with the sleeping area, since it was on the second floor of the building and didn't feel stuffy - there seemed to be adequate ventilation - and I felt like we all had space to breathe even though there were six of us in the room.

The most frustrating part about my stay at MIJE Fourcy was the complete and utter lack of even basic amenities. Here is a non-exhaustive list of the lack of amenities there:

-No lockers
-No outlets above beds (only 2 total in bathroom/dorm room)
-No WiFi in dorm rooms (only in downstairs common space)
-No hand soap in bathrooms!
-No shampoo or body wash/soap in shower
-No towels (may be available for a fee, but not sure)
-One hanging rod (for coats) awkwardly placed right next to a bed in corner of the room for a 6-person dorm, but absolutely nowhere else to hang towels, laundry, etc.
-Luggage storage only in unlocked, unsecured storage room completely separate from reception

I'd read prior reviews, so I was prepared to face a few of these problems, but really...no hand soap in the bathroom?! That's just outrageous. Guests cannot be expected to provide their own soap for hand-washing in a hostel!! I would hope MIJE Fourcy has now, in the age of coronavirus, provided dorms with hand soap, because this is exactly how viruses spread!

While I had prepared myself to not have WiFi connection in the dorm rooms, it was really annoying to have to go downstairs into the common room every time I wanted to use the internet. Luckily, I have an unlimited international data plan (that provides like 2G connection - very slooow), so I could send WhatsApp messages for free without jumping on WiFi, but I imagine the lack of WiFi would be even more problematic for people who don't have that.

And don't get me started on the lack of outlets...there was one outlet in the bathroom, and one over a nightstand in between two poorly-spaced beds in my 6-person sleeping room. THAT'S IT. No individual outlets above each bed, like I've come to expect at most hostels. I was prepared for this, too, since I read reviews beforehand, but MIJE could really do something about this...

In conclusion, I don't know how guests stay at MIJE Fourcy long-term, honestly. I'm a pretty experienced traveler, and while cleanliness is my #1, not having hand soap (related to cleanliness!) and a lack of WiFi and outlets in dorm rooms definitely come a close second. So much of traveling involves having access to a phone and being able to charge it, especially as a female solo traveler who is navigating a new city for the first time. Not being able to charge my devices overnight or look things up online is kind of a dealbreaker. So, only if you don't really need your phone and don't have to charge anything, I'd recommend MIJE Fourcy. It just becomes anxiety-inducing having to figure out how to get a full charge on your phone and plan your days out, otherwise, and who wants that while you're traveling? If you can just split an AirBnB with a friend or fellow traveler, I'd recommend that over spending a ton of money per night on MIJE Fourcy.

Location and price are great.
The hostel was clean and staff very nice.
Only problem was the fact that there was one plug for the entire 6-beds room and there wasn’t a proper door dividing the lavatories and the room, hence you could here anybody brushing their teeth (or doing their laundry) while trying to sleep.

It was a fantastic hostel in Paris. It located really close from Male District. The room and all facilities were very clean and I stayed and slept really well. All receptionists were really nice and helpful. Really convenience to visit any district in Paris. You can walk along la Seine to Louvre Art Museum and Orsay Museum. I would be the best walking in your life especially at dusk.
