The location couldn't be better to visit La Rochelle : Everything is at walking distance. The room was big, clean and comfortable, nicely furnished, the owner altogether helpful and discrete.
A place to stay.
We had a lovely two days in a beautiful room. The interior is very stylish and absolutely amazing. Everything is very nicely decorated and the room was clean and beautiful. Very easy access to town and although so central very peaceful and quiet. Friendly and helpful host.
We stayed at La Maison du Palmier mid August 2018 on the last leg of a trip around South West France and Northern Spain. Located in the centre of town and less that a two minute walk from all the restaurants and bars its perfect for you if your looking for a more realistic French experience outside of Hotel accommodation.
The property itself is beautifully decorated and full of character. We stayed in the garden room on the ground floor that overlooks the courtyard garden. The room is peaceful and charming to stay in with an eclectic mix of antique and traditional French furniture and furnishings that combine to give the room a stylish and restful ambiance.
We never met the owner who was away on holiday but instead were taken care of by her mother Claudine who is a thoughtful and attentive host. Breakfast is optional and well worth it.
A note to anyone driving. The property is adjacent to a car park so unloading luggage is easy but if you don’t want pay for long term parking you can park your car round the corner for free in one of the car parks. Getting up early improves you chances of securing a space as you will have to persevere for a place later in the day or in the busier months when everybody seemed to be looking for free spaces.
What a fantastic find. Right by the port with all the restaurants one street away. Angelique was a brilliant host and our room was exceptional - large bedroom with separate shower room and toilet. It felt like our own apartment. We both had a good night sleep and breakfast was served in the courtyard. Typically French with freshly squeezed orange juice. Parking was just by the hotel.
I had a lovely stay in this very chic beautifully decorated period hotel. My room, La Doucette, was immaculately clean and there was a sitting area with the TV and a large comfy bed with plenty of pillows. There is a charming courtyard with the central feature of the palm tree where you have breakfast. The owner, who speaks fluent english, prepares everything fresh each day and you can really tell that it is done with care and attention to detail. I experienced no issues with the WiFi which was fast and easy to access. The location is amazing it is in a small leafy square but it is only 2 minutes to walk to the old port and two minutes from the park and beach. The shopping streets are one small alleyway away, If you like chocolate ask the owner about her preferred chocolatier - beyond sublime.
