Location pretty central - rooms were of good size and very well equipped . However corridors leading to room had awful smell of fish . Our room was on floor 2. Would stay again if knew smell would be gone
Stayed three nights - October 2019.
Booked through booking.com
booking.com advertised the property as having a balcony/terrace/patio.
However, there were only windows - looking out on to a noisy courtyard.
We were told that none of the two person rooms had balconies, and that the property was too full to move us.
The room was supposed to be an apartment. However, it is really a hotel room with a kitchenette - no washing machine or dishwasher.
The extractor fan did not appear to be working in the windowless bathroom.
There was mould in the shower - see photo.
There was a strange blue stain on the sofa which stained my handbag.
There are unmarked soap dispensers in the bathroom which could contain anything.
The sink tap was positioned too far from the sink - if the tap was turned on at a slow speed, it would flood the worktop - see photo.
There was a safe located at the bottom of a cupboard in an extremely awkward position. It did not appear to be a combination type - requiring a key. I did not bother trying to use it.
The lower section of the courtyard appeared to used by other people - creating a lot of noise - from a baby and dog for example.
On the last night, we were woken up at 0200 by a woman in the room below - room 111 - who had her television on loudly with the window open. The noise reverberated around the courtyard. I had to go and knock on her door and ask her to turn it down.
In short - just don't go there.
The location of the property is Simple the Best.. However the rooms are in desperate need of updating . I had a room on the third floor, The room was a two level , with the living are on the first and a king size bed on the second. The bathroom was oudated, and, read reviews abou the wobbly toilet and the proximity to the Bedroom , I did ended up getting the same on my room .. THe location of the toilet is terrible and everytime you sat on it, it wobbles. Amazingling ths has not been fixed as i read review as far back 2012 . You need an actual key to access the room, , Walls need to be painted , the flooring its all scracthed off and the AC take about 2 hrs to cool .. Elevators are extremely small that you can fit only 2 people and way to slow.. I always eneded up taking the stairs.. Room have no view and the curtains hardly block any sunlight . THe pictures on the hotel webesite , ARE NOT a representative of the condition of the hotel .. The only reason i woudl consider staying at this place is for the location ..
Our apartment looked nothing like the photos on the website and we would have booked elsewhere if we'd known what it was really like. It was poorly laid out, noisy, dark and smelt musty. The shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet were in three different corners of the bedroom and there was no proper ventilation. The windows opened onto a courtyard, but that was noisy due to all the air-conditioning units hanging out there. The toilet was extremely cramped and as there were no handles on the inside of the small doors it was very difficult to shut them. Even when the doors met, there was still a large gap. Similarly, the door to the bedroom did not close property and was roughly made from pine planks. The wardrobe for clothing was located in the tiny kitchen/eating/sitting area and there was nowhere to put suitcases. The safety deposit box didn’t work. The floors were made of painted concrete, not marble, tile or timber as described in the booking. The kitchen chairs were small and uncomfortable, and the drop-side table was tiny. The booking also mentioned sound proofing, but in our apartment we could clearly hear talking and walking in the neighbouring rooms, as well as toilets flushing and taps running. There were also several items mentioned in the description of the apartment that simple weren't there, including: a balcony or patio, coffee maker and a clothes rack.
We stayed here for 4 days during our stay in Madrid. We were a party of six total (or three cousins couples) and we occupied three separate apartments. One was a suite and it was by far the roomiest and most comfortable. The other two were regular rooms considered OK if slightly smelly. Something intermittently went wrong with the sewage system and a nasty smell was present in the bathroom. Other than that, the staff was fantastic, very helpful and knowledgeable of the city and the main attractions. The staff provided us with precious information about public transportation as well as loaded cards that had been left behind by previous guests.Cleaning happened everyday with fresh supplies of everything needed.
The location is super with all major city center attractions within walking distance. The little Plaza Matute, where it is located, is half residential-half commercial, and somehow it has almost every conceivable service within its block long street: a discount, a supermarket, a retail clothing store, a bookstore, two fresh produce outfit, several bars and canteens, a rock-n-roll venue, a tobacco store, a pharmacy, a bank ... I mean, it is unbelievable how these people manage to cramp all those assorted merchants on a single block right in the center of Madrid! Nevertheless it came up as very convenient during our visit.
All in all, we believe this place to be a very good choice for a few days visit to the center of the city, being affordable, clean and secured, very well located, and with an extraordinary staff willing to help you in no-uncertain terms, of your unavoidable questions and concerns while being in a foreign major European city.
