The Renaissance Naples is in an excellent location. Near Lombardi Subway, old town and the famous night market street. Service is good. Room was clean. As expected, not great.

Positives:
+ Location
+ Gym: a high quality large and spacious membership gym in the building. (Although the entrance is next door)
+ Breakfast: rooftop view is spectacular, food is average.

Negatives
- rooms seems dated
- many rooms don’t have a view
- no lounge or ‘extras’ for Bonvoy elite members, I expect more for Titanium status than a 8eu coupon

Terrific, professional staff EVERYWHERE. Great room with one of those unbelievable views of the Bay of Naples and Mt, Vesuvius you see on postcards. A spectacular setting for breakfast with an amazing selection of savory and sweet choices including fresh fruit juices, smoothies, and bakery treats, A terrific location within an easy walk of the shopping district as well as the historic center. Toss in free access to an amazing gym next door, a great modern supermarket less than 5 minutes away, and numerous and delicious Neapolitan style pizzerias and street food and this solo traveler could not have been happier.

I am still trying to figure out how this property has a Renaissance badge. i have been in mid-level Four points and Courtyards that had better amenities.

With over 1800 nights in combined Marriott and Starwood stays, this is only the 2nd time that I have seen a property that is so off-badge/brand.

I am convinced that the owners had a team of lawyers parsing the branding agreement to devise a list of the bare minimum that they could offer.

Here are the facts:

Staff Vibe - I got the feeling from many (Not all!!) of the staff members that they were doing us a favor by "allowing" us to say at the hotel. No "thank you for being a Bonvoy member " (highest level) when arriving and "how was your stay" when leaving.

The room- small and tired - We knew that the rooms were small when we booked so it's our bad

NO WATER in the room - this is the ONLY Marriott property that have stayed in that didn't have at least 1 bottle of water

NO TISSUES in the bathroom - probably because there was no room for tissue box holder.

Miserable coffee service - a fast boiler, a few packets of instant coffee and 2 paper cups- enjoy - not!!

No newspapers other than the lobby copies

Ran out of adaptors -Not a problem since there was only 1 usable outlet plus a USB charging port in a usable position in the room

Mediocre breakfast - what made the situation worse is when they told me that I had to pay extra for a spoonful of hot-table scrambled eggs. At that point, I left and went across the street for a proper coffee and pastry

Noisy!! The hotel has wood floors so if the person in the room on top of yours is wearing heels, you hear it. You also clearly hear your next door "neighbor'". The walls per se are fine but the back wall of the closets are poorly insulated so you hear everything

Antiquated HVAC with no refrigeration component and that makes the room difficult if not impossible to cool down. This is a problem even in the winter as the room air gets stale and the street noise makes it impossible to open the window - I don't want to think what it's like during the hot summer. However, I read where they do offer fans.....

Incorrect point transfer - I got credit for appx $46 instead of the $1600 that I actually paid - figures!! It will get straightened out by why should I spend my time policing this and getting it corrected

This is a property that a Bonvoy member should go to only if they need the night credits to hit a target status level.

Responded 6 Jan 2020
Dear wdchuck1, thank you for having chosen the Renaissance Naples Hotel Mediterraneo sharing your experience with community of TripAdvisor. First of all we would show our apologize if you did not feel comfortable with our property; those who work in the hôtellerie with genuine sense of hospitality are never happy to hear about a disappointed experience as their main aim is the full satisfaction of own guest. So, we are truly sorry for not being able to make the time spent with us as a memorable experience. After reading your detailed review, we feel the need to explain some passages highlighted by you trying to be not on a defensive position. The hotel has been subjected to a long restoration (2 years of works) which include the all bedrooms and common areas (lobby, lounge bar, solarium with sauna, bar and 2 jacuzzi heated pools, roof garden terrace, amazing place for the daily breakfast). The rooms are organized in different kind of types trying to meet all tastes and needs from the bedrooms comfortable for 2 guests to the family room or suite to accommodate 3 and more people. For those who are looking for more space the family superior are perfect as well as the high floor panoramic rooms are the best for a wake up with a memorable view on Naples bay. The furniture are not “tired” but they “simply” reflect the history of our house, which have had the lucky to be designed by one of the most popular Italian architect of XX century. One of the pieces very appreciated is the “Superleggera” chair. The rooms have also modernity touch well represented by the pictures “Pieghe dell’arte” , a close up of the portrait collection of the National Museum of Capodimonte. The plan of restoration works include also the upgrade to a four pipes system thus offering our guests heating or cooling all over the year at the same time. This kind of job should end with a couple of months. Please accept our apologize if your neighbors have been quite noisy feeling the room not well soundproofed but the choice of wooden parquet floor is because it helps to keep an hygienic environment than the carpet or moquette. On regards to the hotel amenities, we would ensure you that the amenities and facilities are complaint to the European brand standard for Renaissance hotels: the welcome bottle of water is reserved for the suite and premium rooms, the coffee maker includes soluble regular coffee, decaffeinated coffee, tea and camomile, sugar sticks, creamer stick. This products are signed by one of most important International brand of food and beverage. Thanks to the international app Pressreader our guest can easily connect to the world’s best newspapers and magazines read for free their favourite newspaper and magazine on tablet or smartphone during their stay with us. Simply connect to our Wi-Fi and download the free Press Reader app to start reading immediately, through a selection of over 7,000 publications in over 60 languages. We are sure that this complimentary service has a value higher than the printed newspaper for two reasons: the free download gives the chance to continue the reading whenever you want and above all to keep updated with instance news. We are sorry if you did not like our buffet breakfast which rotes around Italian products, mostly are local from Naples and Campania, our region. With passion we serve everyday 6 different kind of fresh croissants & brioches, homemade cookies, a good variety of daily cakes and tarte (at least 4 types), the popular Neapolitan specialties as sfogliatelle, babà and pastiera. The international waffles, muffins, pancakes are available to satisfy all taste. Kids and Christmas corner to meet all tastes. Moreover we are delighted to offer a large salt corner, as ham, salami, mortadella, turkey breast, 4 kind of fresh and aged cheese, ricotta cheese, scrambled eggs, omelette, bacon, sausages, rustic pie, mixed salad, tomatoes and potatoes, beans and mushrooms. In addition, it’s possible to order dishes from menu a la carte, among which classic eggs Benedict, Mediterraneo eggs Benedict (our local edition), boiled eggs with ham, fried eggs. The beverage is espresso and includes the Moka, the Italian way of making a good coffee like at home. And of course the special requests of our guests are always welcome. If this selection should not be enough or for those who are looking for something special or anything else our team is at full disposal. The Elite members who have a reservation made with Marriott Bonvoy points can choice between the Continental Buffet Breakfast and points as well as per Marriott Brand standard. Consequently there is an extra fee of euro 3,00 for upgrading to the full American breakfast. Honestly we do not know what could be happened about the points crediting and for this we are truly apologize. We are sure that the Marriott Customer Care and our team have resolved the issue in short time. Dear wdchuck1, we are sorry if you left the Renaissance Naples with this such sense of disappointment and we would be very happy if you could contact us for your future reservation. You are always welcome. Yours in Hospitality, Pasquale Noli Resident Manager Renaissance Naples Hotel Mediterraneo

We (3 couples) spent 4 nights in Renaissance Naples hotel starting 11/20/2019 and did have few issues.
1. In my room the shower didn’t drain well, and ~ 10 liters of water in the tub have been left for 1 hour.
2. The air conditioning in my and our friends room didn’t work.
It was extremely hot and we couldn’t sleep at night in both rooms. We did bring this to the hotel’s attention. They brought a huge fan in one of the room and opened the window (which create a significant noise from the street during the night). During our entire stay it have not been fixed.
3. The third room had an issue with the door lock. They spent 3X time ~20 minutes near their room door till the concierge send the technician.). The lock problem has not been fixed.
I discussed all the issues with hotel front desk person Marina. She told me that she is sorry and she offered me a drink in the bar (!!!)
The hotel really decayed our vacation and is misbranded as a Renaissance, and it should not be one of Marriott’s more premium brands.

The location of the hotel is perfect: 3 minutes from the Metro station Municipio and 10 minutes from the port Molo Beverello. There are a lot of cafes and restaurants in a walking distance to the hotel. There are also some important tourist attractions near the hotel. The hotel has a nice roof terrace on the 11th floor where you can enjoy the breakfast looking over the city. The breakfast is ok, as you have some good options for all the tastes. The room was very clean with a big comfortable bad. Very friendly staff at the entrance to open the door or help with baggage. The personnel at the reception was not too friendly and helpful.

We wanted to start our trip in Positano but because our flight was late evening arrival we opted to spend the night in Naples. Taxi was very reasonable and I think it was about 24 Euros from airport to downtown hotel. Next day we went with Astarita Car Service Sorrento to pick us up at hotel and drop us off at Positano. No complaints about either. There are many other limo companies that can take you to Positano but this had the best Tripadvisor rating. They will also include packages of tours to the sights along with their service. International Phone (0039) 331 38 38 733
