Beautiful location. Very nice main building with nice areas for guests. Nice big dogs. We loved the living rooms with big open fire places. Fun detail that all items in the hotel have a price tag and can be bought. Nice garden.
The room in the lower garden was not so nice. Far away from main building and very dark pathway. Also no wifi in these rooms and very slow wifi in main building.
This was a pretty upclass place, so our expectations were in accordance to the standard and price as well. They contacted us to ask if we want dinner as a buffet for 35 euros per person and it was a great choice to accept. The place has this old flavour about it, it is imposing and comfortable. We stayed in a side building and enjoyed dinner and relaxation in the main one. Good room and it was heated when we arrive. The dinner was a great deal, huge selection of dishes, generally good ones even if quality was not the strong point and more the quantity. Same for breakfast, many types of cured meat, cheese and especialy confiture. The estate offers very quaint living rooms for socialising and also you can walk among orchards and vineyards with a beautiful view. Expensive, buy they differentiate themselves.
The access to the estate is not very smooth, especially at night. Breakfast could use some vegetables. The wines we had included in the buffet were just ok, nothing special.
This property is BEAUTIFUL! The views are incredible and the main house/our room decor were like stepping back in time in an historic mansion. It was breathtaking and the decor is so unique - collections of antiques, art, etc.
This property has all the elements to be 5-Star, however, it missed the mark in a few key areas.
The pool area is not kept - dirty and disheveled pool chairs, dirty diapers in a bin next to the pool house, no towels, unkempt landscaping. The location is amazing so has great potential. One highlights though is that a mini pony just came up while we were laying there to graze on some grass - doesn’t happen at just any pool!
The dinner buffet was the worst meal I had in Portugal. Overpriced and quite terrible food. Very disappointed. The breakfast buffet though was a lot better and there were great croissants.
While the room was beautiful, the bathroom had a moldy shower and the beds were a bit hard.
Overall, this place is great stay for 1-2 nights max, but to be a true destination updates could be made.
Group of eight friends did a cooking class with owner Maria in original wood-fired kitchen. Informative, interesting, and most enjoyable. Then we ate the lunch we had prepared in a private dining room...perfeito! Maria and her story are half the attraction. Really great.
We, the group of friends, just came back from Portugal vacation. One of the highlights of our memorable vacation was a night at this amazing place. The minute we entered the property through the alley of the apple trees the place just took our breath away. We felt like in period movie. The place and the grounds are beautiful. No words can describe it. We explored every corner. It is huge and so impressive. The grounds are endless. We stayed for dinner which was great. After dinner we spent some time with Maria. What a remarkable women!!!!!!!!!!!!. Our room and bathroom were big and well designed in the same style as the whole place. One feels like a part of a family there. The breakfast was also great.. We had to leave in the morning, and it was I only regret. We will be back
