My experience with Rise up in Barbados was amazing. Like always, the daily schedule is planned to get the as much surf and best surf possible with experienced the surf coaches. They always took us to the best location, even when it meant driving across the beautiful island.
They offered daily yoga classes, took us on boat trips, to watch the sun sets and to experience the local Bajan cuisine.Phil and Corina are the sweetest and most accomodating hosts and they do everything to make their guests have the best time.
The villa was beautiful and spacious with a with a swimmin pool you could belly flop into from the living room.
Thank you Corina, Phil, Kaia and the rest of the crew for making me feel part of the family and giving me an amazing and unforgettable experience.
I have stayed and surfed with the Rise Up crew a number of times in Nicarauga, and have great admiration for how they run their surf camps. When the opportunity came to join them 'on the road' in Barbados, I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
I have surfed Barbados numerous times, but it was an incredible change to be there with Rise Up owner, Phil, who is Bajan. Barbados while beautiful, can be expensive, a challenge to get around, and have very busy surf breaks. Rise Up took the friction out of the planning and stay!
The Location: We stayed in a gorgeous (that's not even strong enough a word) villa on the west coast. This place was incredible with a living room open to a pool, amazingly appointed bedrooms, and tons of space to relax. It was a short walk to the beach.
The Food: The culinary team was spectacular with every meal being locally inspired and more than enough for everyone. I came down with a flu part-way through and they went out of their way to make me soup, special tea, and made sure I had everything I needed.
The Surf: We surfed a number of amazing breaks all around the island, depending on the swell direction. With a local guide we always found the best spot, and also the crew took pics and did video review. As always we were divided into groups by ability so everyone got the waves they wanted.
The Team: What can I say ... the best team ever! From Phil & Corina, to the amazing surf guides (hello Fran & Matt!), to Blair's yoga. It's all incredible. The RU crew is an extended family and always there to take care of you.
What an amazing week with amazing people. Thank you!
As always, Rise Up has delivered a fantastic retreat. Every aspect of the week surpassed expectation. The resort was beautiful with such a lavish pool! Jamie outdid herself, as always, providing the most amazing meals, and fresh juices to power us through all of our activities. While the surf was not the easiest for the days of the retreat, the top notch instructors made sure that everyone focused on their surf goals, got better, and had FUN! After all out hard work paddling, our restorative yoga classes were the perfect solution. As an extra activity, we had the opportunity to visit a local NGO, La Choza Chula. We learned about their great work in the community and then had the opportunity to visit a local home for a cooking class, such a great experience! I cannot recommend Rise Up Surf tours enough, and will continue to go back year after year. In the meatime I will continue to pour over all the beautiful photos taken by their photographer Emy (Salty Sea).
This was my second Ride Up trip and my first with them to Nicaragua. Again, I was blown away by how amazing the experience was: we were staying right on bay (Playa Nahualapa) where we principally surfed, however, it was an easy drive/boat trip to other surf spots notably a boat access point break which we had all to ourselves twice during my week; good range of surf spots for guests' varying surf abilities; amazing staff who created such a good vibe; delicious food in copious quantities; owners (a couple with an adorable 2 y.o. daughter) are very attentive to guests' needs and considerate of the communities in which they operate; yoga well tailored to surf sessions; interesting activities to do in area (although I mostly skipped them and read in hammock by pool!); gorgeous open concept accommodation with ocean view, would be perfect for honey-moon; very remote, tranquil part of Nicaragua with small farms and friendly locals. The group was an interesting mix of people and ages, with many solo travellers (me included) in it. If you are looking for any combination of: chill out, relax, improve your surf skills, meet interesting people, eat great food and practice yoga while overlooking the ocean, then I highly recommend this! I cant wait for my next trip.
I joined Rise Up for one of their "pop up" weeks in Costa Rica and I cant say enough good things about the experience; it was my first trip with Rise Up and I plan to do another one! Corina and Phil (owners) have a great team: coaches who are excellent surfers themselves and also strong teachers, plus a locally engaged coach who knew the area exceptionally well. My surfing improved a ton and the wonderful yoga classes in the shala overlooking the ocean were a perfect counter balance to the surf. The day's schedule was adjusted based on surf conditions, weather and group's needs. There was the option to opt out of the additional activities (e.g. nature hike, horseback ride) and sit by the pool if one wanted more down time however the activities provided a fun way to explore and learn more about the area of Costa Rica where we were located. We stayed in a cool jungle eco lodge, surrounded by flora and fauna, with friendly staff and amazing food. The operation was run in a relaxed yet professional manner and I immediately felt welcomed and at home with this wonderful group of people. If you're looking to improve your surf and disconnect in a beautiful part of the world, I would highly recommend taking a trip with Rise Up!
