We have spent five days in the 2 bedroom house and it has been great family holidays despite of the rainy weather... 20 minute driving from Parc Astérix and 10 minute driving to Fosses train station where we took the tain to Paris (50 minutes to "Chatelet-Les Halles"). Laurence has been a wonderful hostess who prepared breakfast every morning. Good value for the price: 110€ per night, breakfast and taxes included, for the five of us. CAR IS NECESSARY.
We stayed with friends at the suite of 'Aux Fleurs de Cérises'. We had two rooms, a bathroom with shower and a very nice balcony. From the start we got advice, when we asked for it, of where to eat, what to visit and to see, which means of transport to use in Paris (batobus - very good). It was all very adequate! Our rooms we liked, the premises as well. I couldn't agree less with the very bad review. The breakfast was tasty and you had everything in abundance. I would recommend this place and if I wanted to stay in the neighbourhood, I would most definitely book a room here once more!
My own experience challenges some of the other reviews. I was treated in a most professional and friendly way by the owner. The location is fantastic, wonderfully close to the airport (20-30 minutes), in a small village situated in rolling hill countryside just outside of Paris. The charm of the spacious courtyard is not apparent from the outside, due to the high walls separating the villa from the street. But the rooms were tasteful and warm - beams and old walls combined with modern conveniences - and the covered patios and garden areas make a stay here far more enjoyable than the commercial atmosphere of a modern hotel. A great breakfast is served in the morning within a beautiful sunlit room off the patio. After a three week tour of France and Spain, I would rate it at the top of my list for value.
Although we were grateful to finally find somewhere that had room for our family of 5 adults for a long weekend and the countryside around the gite was lovely that is where any good points stopped. The owner is rude, unreasonable and is not interested in ensuring you have a good stay. The walls of the gite were so damp that pools of water formed in the hallway every night and the smell of damp throughout the gite was horrible. We complained that the bathroom door was so stiff that my mother got stuck in the bathroom and we were told that the owner had not noticed it previously . . . but no solution or repair was offered. There was only one mug in the gite when we arrived and we had to complain about this - three were eventually provided but joined the mismatching assortment of dirty and chipped crockery and cutlery. The tv and radio were very outdated and the channels were few and far between. Also, although not the fault of the owner, do not expect peace and quiet if you stay in the 3 person bedroom as the neighbour's dogs bark constantly.
Check-in was not until 5pm and even then the gite was not ready, then check out was at 10am, with absolutely no room for negotiation (we did try for half an hour to negotiate for checkout at 10.30am but to no avail!). The cleaners actually turned up at 9.45am and started cleaning around us and removing things that they assumed were rubbish . . . and when I complained they couldn't understand why i was upset by them moving our belongings! Terrible, terrible, terrible. The gite has potential to be lovely if someone could spend a little bit of money on it and cared . . . I would like to think that the customer service could be improved by taking onboard these comments but i suspect they will be dismissed with an arrogant shrug.
