My 7 year old daughter chose to come back to Butlins for her birthday.
We chose standard rooms this time round-last time we went we stayed In gold apartments however I felt they were too far away from everything & we didnt use the kitchen &lounge much with having food package. We arrived later than expected around 630 & there was no parking no where near our room so had to park up the curb to unload and parked really far and had to walk in the rain. This is the main problem for me.
Was happy with the location of our standard bungalow which was close to the pavilion. On first look rooms were nice and clean, tidy..on closer inspection it could do with a proper clean in some places. Beds though I felt were really comfortable.
The shower was poor-the plug didnt drain so ended up standing in all the water. Bathroom could do with a refurb.
We had food package at the buffet restaurant again which we thought was nice. Good choices. Staff all really welcoming & lovely. Always got a table.
Entertainment was brilliant as usual. Especially very grande, little mermaid, animal fx and the little big festival was great. Paid for pottery painting which my daughter loved. Did the art craft session where she made a book mark.
Had to queue for entertainment which I expect but knew it had to be done to get a seat.
Swimming pool was good. Changing rooms were cold though and very busy. Couldnt get a shower as was too busy so had to go back to the room for one. Good to are plenty of lifeguards too.
Funfair okay. Some.rides not working and feel the bungee is too much for £6.
Overall though a fun break. My daughter loved it and that's the main thing. Will.be returning. Would like to see the parking sorted out.
I’ve been to Butlin’s probably for the last 7 years and it’s got worse over the years, and more expensive with very little free. Having to pay for WiFi is daft most trains and buses provide free unlimited WiFi yet Butlin’s expect you to pay, again so they can get more money out of you. I’ve unlimited data on my phone but for some reason there is very little signal whilst your staying in Butlin’s so they really do have you over a barrel with the WiFi.
Our room which was silver accommodation in lobster court was filthy looks like it hasn’t been used in a while was dusty inside and outside thick in dirt and half the furniture in the room was broken and the bedding was stained. The lights outside had what I can only describe as toilet paper soaked and thrown at the light fittings and then dried looking a real mess. The whole complex needs a revamp, good jet wash with antibacterial spray used and painting. Rooms need painting with new furniture.
Premium dining used to be great but I feel like this has even gone downhill with it a bit of a free for all and not as organised as it used to be. The custard had no taste not the porridge in the morning. However the staff in the restaurants are fab, and many faces I recognise from previous years.
The pool - None of the jacuzzis worked outside or inside during our stay the wave pool no longer works and the blue slide only opened for two out of our four days!
Funfair - We then have the funfair with half the rides out of action. Unfortunately, you aren’t aware of any of this till you arrive, and they have your money. Maybe guests should be made aware of what’s working and not working before they arrive with some money back.
Optional extras - my daughter and her friend had the adrenaline passes which we fab and the guys running this areas are fab and make it worthwhile. Defo a plus for Butlin’s and it was worth the £20 each for this. However, pottery painting has gone from £5 in 2019 to £8 in 2020 this is a huge increase especially when you have two to pay for.
I love Butlin’s and have a little mini break there in feb each year and writing this makes me feel guilty but I feel like there really needs a shift in the management and maybe some young fresh eyes in to whip it back into shape. Guests pay a lot to go and we expect to get what we pay for and I feel this year it’s been poor and I’m doubtful I will return next year.
Came in feb half term to butlins skegness, would not return. We paid extra for the seaside accommodation only to arrive what looked like poo or sick marks up the walls, stained beds, sticky floor, generally disgusting. Queues for shows were horrendous on our first night we waited one hour for a 7.30 show only to be told when nearly at the door that the venue was full, after queing all that time disappointed kids and parents! They should not let you waste time queuing, when clearly they know the maximum capacity. Swimming pool changing rooms were cold and filthy. To top it all off my daughter and I fell ill with diarrhoea and sickness. Whether this was a bug or down to the food would not be fair to say, however I feel after paying out £1000 for mon-fri we may as well have chucked our money in the bin. They are also out to catch you for even more money with photos, amusements and toys.
I have contacted Butlins with my complaints and have only had an email back with apologies, which I do not feel good enough. So have therefore posted on here to try and prevent anyone else losing money on this type of experience.
We are just driving home after an excellent 2020 February half term Monday-Friday stay. We stayed in a two bedroom silver room and purchased premium meal plans as well as all action passes.
Starting from Monday, we arrived at 14:30 and checked in painlessly via the drive through check in. This was very helpful and removed all of the trouble of queuing to check in etc. We were allowed to use the facilities before entering our room at 16:00.
Focusesing on the facilities, wow these were excellent. The shows were excellent and the skyline gang were fantastic. My daughter in particular loved the wrestling and she could not be convinced to leave for bed, despite it going on well beyond nine. She was transfixed and absolutely loved it. Our daughter took part in as many activities as possible from mini archery & tennis to arts and crafts. We can certainly recommend the all action passes and thoroughly enjoyed the American pool and lazer quest type activity. The swimming pool was brilliant, with many exciting slides and different pool areas. The swimming pool was large enough to cope with the many people wishing to use it. It is key that you book activity’s on arrival as they all get booked up quickly (this includes the soft play- which our 16 month old son loved). I’m absolutely exhausted as every day was jam packed full.
I have to say the food was excellent and it is very much worth getting the premium meal plan. The breakfast was always well cooked with many options to choose from (including bespoke cooked sandwiches and pancakes). Dinner was also brilliant with a carvery available every day. Alongside this there was a themed night every evening which included Italian, Mexican, Chinese & Indian. The deserts at dinner were very tasty and always well stocked. The staff at all times were excellent with the children and ensured the resturant was always clean & food well
Stocked. A special shout out the individual who was on meet and greet at the premium dinner Resturant (I believe his name was Glynn). He was always so friendly and genuinely keen to engage with the children. He represented the Butlin’s brand very positively.
The room itself was nice and clean as well as located close to the main skyline area. The park is well situated on the Lincoln coastline and only a mile from the Ingoldmells centre.
Only a couple of suggestions for improvement, with everyone’s attempt to reduce plastic usage it would be good to introduce paper cups in the Resturant to replace the plastic cups. It was also at times difficult to find a truly clean plate, I think this was because the type of dishwasher used often can find it difficult to provide a completely smudge free finish, it might be worth changing.
We were looking for a UK option that would keep the children entertained for the February half term and was a reasonable price. Butlin’s was certainly this and we will be coming back.

Arrived at butlins on Monday the 17th feb for mon-fri for half term! We went to the car check in point and we was told our check in was at guest services! Parked up and we got there just as a huge queue started. We were allocated 10 echo point in is a standard 2 bedroom Shaley! A double room with the tiniest telly I’ve seen a 16inch! Tea and coffee facilities under a mirror very oddly placed! Also small double with the squeaky bed I’ve ever came across! Also twin bed with 2 small singles and a bed side table! Floor was filthy we had to get them to revac! Overall the placement for the room was perfect! Over the side was the football court! 5 seconds from the restaurant of the food court! Half way through the break my daughter was sick! We hadn’t opted from housekeeping but she was sick on the end, we went to guests services and within 5 minutes a fresh bottom sheet as I was changing the mattress was covered in stains pictures below! WiFi was shocking they gave you 300mb free everyday which somehow lasted only half hour and that was just browsing you then had to pay for more which we didn’t do! We had opted for the food court! The host was lovely, and was very friendly always opening the door for people lovely man! The breakfast and dinner was lovely, clean plenty of choice! Was a bit like a cafeteria but in an all you can eat you always have this!
We went to one of the restaurant the pub and grill, food was awful tables wasn’t cleared from the last people! We had food once and then went back for a scone which was rock hard! Burger King and the fish shop nice for what you get! Reasonably priced! Supermarket was average prices! The entertainment in the day the book able activities art and crafts and circus school etc! Very well ran and ratio of children are good. We also got an activity pass for 20.00 which including American pool, bowling, golf, laser quest and go karts! Which was worth it! We went to the pantomime one afternoon and they were letting far too many people and said standing room only! What children can you make stand for over an hour! All good activities although the golf required an update! Reds and centre stage people were queueing up at 16.00 for the evening and the day of the pantomime which started at 15.00 people were queueing up from 11.30 which is an absolute joke, our children are tweenagers! So we opted to have a chill until the later show where there plenty of table and seats in centre stage the one night we went to red we hated it, the whole place smelled and you stuck the carpets they were that sticky! Drinks in there are reasonable priced! We also went to the cinema one afternoon which was 22.00 for 2 adults and 2 children! Which was good. One night we were waiting for the Ariana grande tribute act and 5 minutes before she was due to come on she cancelled! We went to the pool one afternoon which was overcrowded, no lockers for the capacity they let it, no actually people checking who’s in and who’s out! Always not as many changing room! Queues for slides were about 15 minutes long! No space at all to swim! The overall cleanliness of Butlin’s needs to be investigated toilets were dirty, checks not done! Just something my mum has been going with my daughter for 4 years consecutively and the cleanliness of chalet was poor compared to the other years and the lady at guest services said if you complained as well in 2018 what should that matter? You pay money for accommodation and standards shouldn’t drop but Overall it a good break but needs some improvements!
