I’m a regular business traveller to Canberra so it’s important to me that I can rely on a hotel for comfort, cleanliness and food. This is a new and positive addition to Canberra and despite a few glitches is getting up to speed.
The staff are mostly excellent. They are young, enthusiastic and customer-focussed. A little unsure of themselves at times, giving the impression of some teething problems.
The rooms are small but perfectly adequate for me. The bed was comfortable, the bar fridge contents are reasonable and all free. The bathrooms are well-appointed. The internet dropped out often which was annoying.
I have dined in the restaurant several times and had room service. The menu is on the innovative side and potentially a bit beyond the chef’s skills. It has been hit and miss. The deli-style meats are all delicious. The wine offerings are excellent. The staff have treated me very well there. One request, a good hotel should always have a burger for room service :)
I will continue to go to this hotel and no doubt the small kinks will soon be ironed out.
Definitely the best hotel in Canberra. The location is excellent, the service was faultless and the quality of everything was very impressive - from the free and generous mini bar, the amenities and the pool. The room was very clean and the breakfast was outstanding. The staff also wrote us a card - with a bottle of champagne and the best chocolates we’ve EVER had for our anniversary. Only downside was that parking was $30 which is a bit ridiculous for Canberra. Otherwise, couldn’t recommend more for anyone visiting Canberra.
Gotta love a hotel with a name that implies a time to sleep, especially if you are looking for a restful stay. The hotel is spanking new (opened in late 2019) in the bustling Braddon suburb, a block away from Lonsdale St with all the restaurants and cafes. And the room did deliver what I needed - comfortable bed, very quiet, and decent bathroom size and amenities. The large TV is equipped with ChromeCast, so you can connect it to your phone and watch Netflix and the likes.
As for the hotel facilities, the lap pool with its soothing, dark blue tiles is a must try. Go for a swim in the morning when there's less people. There's also a tiny poolside gym, and another gym on the ground floor which is slightly larger (still tiny, though). The all-day restaurant (Braddon Merchant) has an Italian deli/bistro theme. It has an excellent array of cold cuts (which you can also buy for takeaway), but the dishes still have some way to go to pass the Italian benchmark.
From the moment you arrive you know you are welcome- the staff here is attentive and sincerely considerate. A two week stay away from Home is eased by the fabulous pool and adequate gym- easy access bar and restaurant with an interesting menu. Couple growing pains for international travelers but I recommend heartily staying here. Locations is perfect for restaurant choices, meeting friends or business associates, easy walk to the best local cafes, coffee, restaurants and town center attractions if you wish to explore. Rooms are spotless- drinking water abundant and in room refrigerator and complimentary snacks a huge bonus. WiFi is enough to do business work or contact home, safe in room to secure valuables convenient. Spacious bathrooms
And delightful rainfall showers. You will not be disappointed. Meets every need with comfort and ease to focus on work or Family.
I stayed at Midnight hotel for a night not too long after it opened. I paid around $350 for the night without breakfast. Quite steep for Canberra and perhaps what was on offer.
The rooms were of course in good condition, because they were brand new. Reasonably sized, if not a touch small. Comfortable, nice finishes and decent bathroom.
Dark, courtyard facing rooms are a bit of a downside for someone that likes natural light and needs to get some work down from their rooms. From what I could tell, you would need to be on the top floor to receive some direct light, and only at certain times of the day.
Service was extremely friendly and diligent, perhaps even a touch overbearing at some times. Front counter seems a little inexperienced at times. Marriott Bonvoy Gold was not acknowledged at all. I feel the system may automatically upgrade 'elites' where possible, but on check in I could see that the room category on the sheet was above what I had booked, which the check in staff also noticed and changed back to my category (odd).
The breakfast I had was yum, service was good.
All in all I would consider staying at the hotel again and am sure some of the serviced kinds will be ironed out.
