I chose this motel because of it's location to the university we were touring. I expected better quality for the price they were charging.
The evening clerk seemed like she couldn't be bothered to check me in. I was handed the room key, and the remote to the TV. The room was very small. The A/C was very noisy and it was either blowing very cold air or when it stopped, it was very hot. You also had to flip a switch to turn on the refrigerator. The queen sized bed seemed more like a double bed.
I don't expect much from a continental breakfast - just something small and simple. The Americas Best Value Inn provided a gallon of milk, 2 kinds of cereals, packaged pastry and watered down coffee and watered down apple juice. I can see why they didn't have many guests or return customers.
I will stay elsewhere, if my son decides to attend the university in Azusa.
While I did have a reservation, I backed it out at the last minute because of one dealbreaker: despite paying for the room full online through whatever site, they still require a deposit.
Now, I've stayed in a LOT of hotels over decades and I haven't seen deposits since the mid 90's and only then when you used a debit card instead of a credit card (mine is a credit card) . But fine, maybe they have a lot of fraud. Problem is they only take cash for the deposit. $50.
It's not the amount, it's the cash requirement instead of allowing debit cards or the same credit card. And they refused to budge on it.
I have been traveling for 30 years and normally I do not write reviews, but I love this place so much, that I must take the time to do a review. Whenever I am in the area, I always stay at this hotel and they always make sure I have a room. Over the years, I have come to know the family that runs this outstanding property. They excel at service and they are always improving the facilities. This time I needed more room than usual, but I did not say anything. I had never realized just how large their rooms are. They are not only clean, they are huge! We are not talking about a suite or anything, this is a standard room and it is much larger than the rooms I normally stay in. I love everything about this place from their service, to their cleanliness. When I stay with them, I truly feel like it is my home away from home!
I stayed 3 days here, and was a disappointed at the partial cleaning that my room had when I checked in. There were a few hairs on the bathroom counters, and also a few hairs on the pillow cases. The bathroom needed to be updated a little, with some stains in the tub. There is no microwave in the room, but there is a mini-fridge, and the complimentary breakfast consisted of fruit loops or raisin bran, quaker instant oatmeal one flavor, coffee, apple/orange juice and packaged honey buns.
The hotel is on Azusa Blvd, so you could hear traffic after 6am, but was quiet in the late evening hours. The bed was fine and they offer complimentary DirecTV. The location is very convenient to downtown Azusa.
I think the next time I'm in Azusa, I will spend a little more money on another hotel.
Very comfortable room, everything was easy to access without any help. WIFI address was posted where I checked in so I didn't have to ask, and it worked without glitches. Fridge worked very well, both in the freezer section (for cold packs for the ice chest), air conditioner was super clean, quiet, and easily adjusted for temp. I was so exhausted from driving that all I wanted to do was sit and vegetate in front of the TV, and the room was perfect for that activity! In the morning as I packed up my things I forgot to pack the electrical cord for my electric toothbrush. I called them a day later when I was home and awake, and they told me that they had found the cord, and would be happy to send it to me. They even called me when I was in the mail to let me know. I will definitely stay there again when I am on the road.
