We spent three nights at Hotel Villa Caribe. The room was spacious and well appointed. The beds provided a comfortable night sleep, although a couple of the pillows were rock hard. The view from the room across the pool area and out into the mouth of Rio Dulce and beyond was stunning (particularly at sunrise). The pool area was great, especially for our 4 year-old, where there was a large shallow area complete with balls to engage in various forms of play. The pool did collect a fair amount of leaf litter, which I imagine is pretty hard to avoid given the wind and the surrounding foliage.
The breakfast was simple with three options, but always of good quality. The restaurant meals in the evening were enjoyable.
The internet was very good and the laundry service excellent and extremely reasonable with respect to cost.
A good place to stay when visiting Livingston.
Villa Caribe was a very relaxing final part of a quite intense trip around Guatemala, and it serves the purpose perfectly! The room was simply perfect, with nice nautical-inspired design and the stunning views on the Baia de Amatique and lush vegetation on the coast. It was simply a dream to wake up and fall asleep listening to the sea. I recommend you to ask for a room at the upper floor, both for the view and for the distance from the street, which can get a bit noisy because the place is right in the Main Street of the picturesque and lively city of Livingston! The plus to our staying was a beautiful large pool, which we used since the sea, unfortunately, is not swimmable there. From the pool area you can immerse yourself into nature, looking at the sea or just listening to the many big tropical birds sitting on the palms.
The restaurant is good and with awesome views too and the tapado is nice to try, breakfast could have more variety but it is of good quality.
The improvements I suggest to make the guests’ experience perfect is a mini-fridge in the room and a functioning bar close to the pool, which was always closed when we were there. The pool should be also cleaned more often because waste tends to accumulate from the trees all around.
All in all a very pleasant stay and I would definitely come back!
This hotel was a real joy to discover. Lovely views over the Caribbean and plenty of interesting bird life in the hotel grounds. Our room was on a balcony quite a way from the restaurant but while we there they were building a new staircase which will give a shorter route so the next visitors shouldn't have a problem! Restaurant good, especially the fish. Only drawback to hotel is the number of stairs, which might cause difficulties for partially disabled people.
Location is great in the centre of the town of Livingston and on the shore of bay of Amatique. We had a bungalow overlooking the pool with a very decent bed, but with the wash sinks in the bedroom, which we did not like. In the bathroom/toilet the toilet paper has to be put in the trash bin, and you have to accept the presence of insects. The food in the restaurant is decent, but the lobster I ordered came overgrilled and dry.
We arrived by boat at the hotel dock and porters were on hand to transport our luggage up the stairs to the lobby. The room was comfortable and air conditioned. The restaurant served a buffet the night we were there, which was good value (Q125) including a soft drink or beer. There was also local dancing to watch during dinner.
