This camp certainly lived up to its excellent reviews. The staff made us feel so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and we certainly appreciated the effort the chef devoted to meeting all my wife’s dietary requirements. A special mention must also go to our steward, Bruno, who was so cheerful, courteous and helpful. Our room was always immaculate and we loved his friendly demeanour. The ambience of the camp was peaceful, restful and homely. Really, we didn’t want to leave because all the staff were so hospitable. We had a fantastic time and can’t thank the staff enough for making our stay so wonderful.
My wife and I were so impressed with how the camp was spotless, the food was amazing (including our box lunch) and the staff was so friendly. Our room was so nicely set up to make it comfortable for us and it was spotlessly clean.
We stayed at Lemala Mara directly after having stayed at the Ngorongoro Sanctuary and we felt it was a huge downgrade.
First the positives: The camp is very well located at the Serengeti and the drive to the daily safari is very short which is great. Our camp butler Ciobi was extremely nice and polite. Our tent was a two bedroom one and it was very spacious. It was nice to eat around a communal table, this way we met people from all over the world and made new friendships. And most of all, our driver Bosco was absolutely fantastic, he made our stay really worth the while. He was so professional and eager for us to see the migration and the animals that we hadn't yet see! Because of him we experienced the best of Serengeti.
Now the negatives: The tent was not cleaned and I don't know when was the last time that it had been cleaned. There was no choice in food for lunch or dinner. There was one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert but without any choice, so if one didn't eat what was offered he or she would remain with an empty stomach. There were no mosquito covers at the breakfast buffet and every morning we would find bugs in the buffet plates. The camp manager seemed like he was bored and was almost never around. In all other camps we've stayed the camp manager was always around, sharing stories and welcoming us, making sure that everything was done according to our wishes. The tent shower was so badly made that when I was washing my hair my hands and hair would always get tangled with the wires used to moderate the water pressure. Granted this was not a proper shower and the hot water was brought with a bucket outside our tent, but this is exactly how we showered in our previous camp. Only there, the shower head had been installed properly and wasn't creating any issues.
The most amazing experience! Just returned last week. The tent suites are impressive, comfortable and spotless clean. The food is top notch s d the staff incredibly gracious and hard working. Kudos! I hope to return one day. Asante sana!
The location was amazing. Incredibile view of animals just in front our tend. The staff is hard working, graciusos and everytime helpful especially with our grand daughter Antonia (6 years old). The food delicious and the moments around the fire great. Asante sana from the Swiss group, we will take in our memories. Jumbo
We stayed at Lemala Mara at the start of our safari trip and could not have been happier with the family tent, food, location and incredible staff. Chobanga, Godwin and the staff worked tirelessly to ensure we had an amazing stay and always greeted us with a big smile. Our family tent (one king and two full beds in sleeping areas with two bathrooms seperated by a living room) was incredibly clean with the most comfortable beds we could imagine. I was initially a little concerned about the "talking showers" but couldn't have been mroe delighted when I was able to take a nice, warm shower. The coffee delivery service in the morning was absolutely over the top and waking to the view incredible.
The food was both plentiful and outstanding. The level of quality along with excellent service was a welcome surprise for our first experience at a tented camp. The kids enjoyed smores by tthe fire in the evening and one night a hippo was sighted in the parking area. We didn't see organized programming for the Lemala Kids program but everyone on the staff went out of their way to make sure the kids had a wonderful time including playing soccer and setting up the bonfire and bows/arrows, etc. were available for the children to play.
As our first trip to Africa and the first camp on our safari, nothing prepared us for the amazing views, the animals making noise outside our tent and the warmth of the wonderful staff.
